Event Center committee continues exploring possibilities

The committee doing in-depth research into the possibility of bringing an air conditioned and heated event center to Hutchinson County is still at work on the project. The idea was brought to the table in April of 2010 and is taking on new life as progress is being made.
“The search committee was formed in an effort to validate whether an event center would work here,” said committee chair Mark Mitchell.

Keeping Fritch schools cool

The Sanford-Fritch ISD Board of Trustees has called a special meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2012 at 7 p.m. in the SFISD Administration Building Board Room. Trustees will consider or approve the “Cool Schools” Grant construction contract with Trane Company. This grant helps public schools replace old, inefficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Superintendent Jim McClellan, stated the grant gave the district about $450,000 to replace HVAC systems for all three campuses in the district, excluding the gyms and Administration offices.

FPC hoop teams open WJCAC play Monday

The Frank Phillips College men’s and women’s basketball teams begin WJCAC Conference play this Monday evening, January 16th against Odessa College.
The Plainsmen and Lady Plaisnmen will be at home every Monday for the next seven weeks in conference action.
On the men’s side, this Monday the Plainsmen (8-8)play the #10 Odessa College Wranglers, who are 15-1.
Next Monday, January 21st, the Plainsmen we host South Plains College, who are 15-0 and #3 in the nation.
Currently the Plainsmen are undefeated in Borger this season

Comanches bounce back with big win over Sunray

West Texas High’s boys opened District play with a sloppy loss in Booker Tuesday and evidently it tasted really bad. The team came out to play in their first home loop game last night. They took care of the Sunray Bobcats 39-29 in a low scoring game. The Tribe played like a team possessed, jumping out to an 11-0 lead before the Bobcats could get on the scoreboard. The full court press by the Comanches was stifling.

Lady Wolves pull away from Lady Bulldogs, 56-27

DALHART-On Friday night, the Dalhart Lady Wolves took advantage of good outside shooting and second half turnovers by the Borger Lady Bulldogs to pull away for the 56-27 win in District 1-3A play in Dalhart.
The Lady Bulldogs turned the ball over 12 times in the third period, leading to the Lady Wolves to start the second half on a 16-4 run to put the game out of reach.
After a rough showing on Tuesday against Pampa, the Lady Bulldogs opened the game doing a good job controlling the boards and moving the ball around on the offensive end.

Lady Eagles lose tough one to Spearman

On Friday night, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles traveled north to Spearman to play for first place in District 1-2A.
The Lady Eagles sitting 14-8 and 2-0 in district were looking for a good matchup with the Lynxxettes.
Sanford-Fritch started off slow and quickly saw Spearman go ahead 6-2.
The Lady Eagles took a quick timeout to refocus and a Jacy Judd score tied the game at 6-6.
The Lynxxettes played good defense and controlled the boards very well the entire game.
The first quarter score ended at 13-9 with Spearman leading.

Abilene Cooper tops Borger boys and girls soccer teams

On Friday, Abilene Cooper got the sweep over the Borger Bulldog and Lady Bulldog soccer teams in the first round of play at the West Texas Invitational in Abilene.

The Bulldogs and the Cougars squared off in a good contest that was tied 1-1, until Cougars score two late goals to pull away for the win.
Cooper took a 0-1 lead at halftime on a penalty kick. But the Bulldogs were able to tie the game early in the second half off a goal by Paco Ibarra with an assist by Miguel Estrada.

Sunray cruises to win over Lady Comanches

The West Texas Lady Comanches hosted the Sunray Lady Bobcats last night, still looking for their first District win. The Lady Cats had a different idea, and easily took care of the Lady Tribe 49-26. West Texas was in game for the first quarter, but after that, it wasn’t pretty. Sunray got out to a 10-0 lead before the Lady Comanches got on the board with 1:40 showing in the opening period.

Eagles fall to Spearman in District 1-2A opener

On Friday evening the Sanford-Fritch Eagles opened District 1-2A play with a loss on the road to the Spearman Lynx.
A slow, scoreless start for the Eagles left them trailing without a score in the first quarter.
The Eagles didn’t score until the clock read 7:05 in second quarter.
Senior Chris Bryan, point leader with 13, was the first one to give the Eagles a bucket.
Shots were hard to fall for both Spearman and Sanford-Fritch. Halftime Spearman led 21-6.
The rest of the game was a physical matchup and Sanford-Fritch tried their best to get back in the game.

Recruiting: It is a whole new ball game

Now that the college football season is over, die-hard fans will start checking out newspapers and various websites to see the list of new recruits their favorite college teams are planning on bringing in this spring or upcoming fall.
Thanks to movies and television, a lot of people picture college coaches calling players over and over again to tell them how great they are and how it would be in the best interest of the player for them to agree to come to their school.
