Robert L. Seymour, 82, of Borger, died Tuesday Dec. 6, 2011, at Borger.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in the Garden of Hope under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Maxine “Mackie” Richards

Maxine “Mackie” Richards, 79, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at her home in Borger.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Grace Church with Pastor Marshall Ford officiating, and Pastor Tim Hall assisting. Interment will follow in the “Garden of Serenity” at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mildred Marie Collins

Mildred Marie Collins, 94, of Amarillo, died Tuesday Dec. 6, 2011, in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be Friday Dec. 9, 2011, at Westlawn Cemetery with Jerry Bell of Park Central officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Love at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mildred was born Jan. 24, 1917, at Okmulgee, Okla., to James and Laura Giles. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Borger and the Paragon Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Cheryl Miller in 2008 and husband Orvid in July 2009.

Franklin “Joe” Tate, 75, of Borger, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, in Borger.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Melvin Brooks of Borger officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Hope at Westlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

County Airport celebrating opening of new terminal

Hutchinson County Airport is celebrating the opening of a new terminal.
The ribbon cutting for the new terminal will be held at 11 a.m. on December 9, 2011. The size of the new terminal is 3,500 square feet. The process of building this new terminal has taken a total of five years to completely plan and create.
The project has been funded through a grant provided by Texas Department of Transportation, a 25 percent donation from Hutchinson County, a generous offer from a local businessman, who was not identified, and the Borger Economic Development Corporation.

Council grants permit for recovery center

December 7, 2011

The Borger City Council has approved a permit towards the opening of a recovery center in Borger.
The permit request was made by Fellowship Baptist Church to use property located at 920 South Main Street for the placement of a center for those wishing to recover from alcohol or drug abuse.

Panhandle Panthers slip past the Borger Bulldogs 30-29

PANHANDLE-Perhaps due to the cold weather, on Tuesday night the Borger Bulldogs and Panhandle Panthers both struggled offensively and combined for 51 turnovers in Panther Gym in Panhandle.
Despite the turnovers and shooting woes, the Bulldogs were in a position to win the game by holding a 29-28 lead with 40 seconds to go.
Unfortunately, the Panthers got the breaks they needed in the final seconds to score the go ahead basket with four seconds on the clock in their 30-29 win.

Lady Bulldogs fall to Panhandle, 64-26

PANHANDLE-On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs struggled to get their offense going in their 64-26 loss to the Panhandle Pantherettes.
The Lady Bulldogs shot just 26% against Panhandle and couldn’t make up for it on the boards with Panhandle doing a solid job boxing out for rebounds the whole game.
A pass from McKenzie Loftis to Emma Wood put the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard early. However, Panhandle opened the first period by going on a 17-2 run.

Don Conner, 84, died Monday, December 5, 2011, in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, OK with Rev. Johnny Robertson, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Finishing touches being put on Subway

The finishing touches are being put on Borger’s new Subway restaurant.
Frank Wingate, one of the operating partners of Subway, said they are in the final days of finishing the new location of the Subway of Borger.
However, there a few things that still need to be completed prior to its opening.
“It’s looking good, but we still have a list of things to get done to be ready for everyone to once again eat at the store,” he said.
