Luisa Tobar Carrillo, 75, of Borger, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Amarillo.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Francisco Perez of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Pampa officiating. Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Minton Memorial Chapel.

Shirley Ann Ward Christian

Shirley Ann Ward Christian was born on July 18, 1939 in Brackettville, Texas to Hardin Lee, Sr and Dorothy Rea Ward. She confessed her belief in Christ and was a member of New Light Baptist Church in Dalhart, Texas. She attended public school in Brackettville, Texas.
She was married to Chester Christian on July 8, 1986 in Stinnett, Texas and she is the mother of one son, Kenneth Ward and one daughter, Dorothy Yvette Proctor.

Farm Bureau makes donations to volunteer firefighters

The Hutchinson County Farm Bureau has made donations on behalf of several local volunteer departments in recognition of their hard work.
The agency has donated $334 each to Stinnett, Fritch, Morse, and Crutch Ranch Volunteer Fire Department, with $1,000 contributed by Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) to help recover resources and funds used to keep the community safe.
Hutchinson County Farm Bureau President John Lieb said the agency is thankful for all of the work the volunteer firefighters do in order to keep the communities of the county safe.

Borger Wrestling team in action tonight

The Borger Bulldogs wrestling team will host Amarillo High in wrestling action this afternoon beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Tex Hanna Gym.

FPC partnering with other community colleges

Frank Phillips College is entering into what it considered a unique partnership with two area community colleges.
FPC, Amarillo College, and Clarendon College signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that has been signed by all three colleges outlining the arrangement.
The objective of the MOU is to ease and improve the student transfer process, provide additional options, and leverage resources all toward the ultimate goal of helping students earn a college degree.

BISD board to meet Thursday

December 14, 2011

The Borger ISD Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, in the board conference room of the BISD administration building, 200 East Ninth.
The board will hear campus reports on Borger High School, Borger Intermediate School, Gateway Elementary School, and the athletic programs. It will also consider action on the district’s financial audit for the 2010-11 fiscal year.

Bulldogs roll past Highland Park Hornets, 63-38

On Tuesday evening, the Borger Bulldogs outscored the Amarillo Highland Park Hornets 22-0 in the third period leading them to pull away for a 63-38 win at Tex Hanna Gym.
The win was one of those games were every Bulldog player had at least a rebound or put points on the scoreboard, led by junior Jamon Hearon who scored 22 points in his game back after missing three games due to a leg injury.
The Bulldogs started the game a little slow leading to the Hornets to open the game building a 12-4 lead.

Lady Hornets sting the Lady Bulldogs 44-41

On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs appeared to be on their way to snapping a losing streak by leading throughout their game with the Amarillo Highland Park Lady Hornets up until the 26 second mark of the third period.
But the breaks in the final nine minutes of the game would not go the Lady Bulldogs way, leading to the Lady Hornets escaping Tex Hanna Gym with a 44-41 win.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the game strong by building a 10-2 lead by the 5:00 mark of the first period.

Country Chevrolet serving as dropoff site for Rainbow Room

Country Chevrolet is serving as a drop-off site for the Rainbow Room again this year. This year Chevy is partnering with Borger Bank to make sure that area foster care children have a merry Christmas.
The dealership will serve as a dropoff for holiday items. Items may be donated during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Give to America’s littlest heroes

December 13, 2011

Help our future veterans and give to America’s Youngest Heroes. Local veterans are getting together to help parents and other guardians who need help with baby items this holiday season. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 404 in cooperation with the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Amarillo will be holding a “ Baby Shower Drive” for the ”littlest heroes.”
