LIBERAL, KS – Roxanne Redman, 66, Liberal, KS, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, KS.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Miller Chapel with Rev. Rex Petty presiding. Interment will be in the Liberal Cemetery.

Crime Stoppers seeking help in solving burglary

The Crimestoppers and Borger Police Department are seeking help in solving a burglary that occurred this past Monday.
On the morning of March 19, 2012, PD officers responded to a residential burglary in the 1200 block of University Place, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD.
It appeared as though the burglary took place just shortly before officers arrived on scene. During the burglary, the suspect(s) took a pink and tan Gucci purse and wallet valued at $2,000.

Animal control ordinance introduced

An amended animal control ordinance for the City of Borger is officially moving forward.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council acted to introduce an ordinance to amend the City of Borger Code of Ordinances pertaining to animal control.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said the city’s current ordinance regulating animals is located in Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances. He said he is not sure when the original ordinance was first adopted, but it has been modified numerous times.

Carolyn Marie Finchum

Borger – Carolyn Marie Finchum, 65, died Tuesday, March 20 in Brownfield, Texas.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Westlawn Memorial Park with Jake Minton and Sharmain Westmoreland officiating.
Interment is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Carolyn was born in San Diego, CA and lived 20 years in Borger before moving to Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her mother Jennie Gammill, her step-father Francis Davis Gammill and her father O. C. Finchum, Jr.

Tomorrow is Don Rice Day!

Tomorrow is Don Rice Day!
In celebration of Don’s 50 years with the Borger News-Herald, a special reception is being held at the BNH offices at 10 a.m. tomorrow. There will be refreshments and drinks, and the public is invited to attend.
The Hutchinson County Commissioners will be making a special proclamation declaring March 23 “Don Rice Day,” and a special presentation will be made to Don during the festivities.
Don will have some of his old cameras and photos on display during the reception for those in attendance to see.

Council receives annexation petition

The process of annexing land for a proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter for the City of Borger is now moving forward.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council received the petition requesting annexation of the remaining portion of a 19.773 acre tract of land in Section 23, Block Y, Arnold & Barrett-Morris & Cummings Survey, Hutchinson County, instructed staff to prepare a service plan, and approved a resolution setting two public hearings for May 15, 2012.

HutchCares holding appreciation banquet March 27

HutchCares: Living At Home keeps on giving at its Appreciation Banquet in honor of its volunteers.
The banquet is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Fairlanes Baptist Church, 3000 Fairlanes Blvd., in Borger.
There will be live entertainment provided by John Alexander and Linda Cox, along with a silent auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. for volunteers and guests to enjoy.

Borger Chamber of Commerce welcomes Global Frontline Solutions

On Tuesday afternoon, the Borger Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome new member Global Frontline Solutions. Global Frontline Solutions held an open house to celebrate the opening of its offices inside the Borger EDC building at 1111 Penn Avenue. During the open house the company showed off the equipment it uses and employees took time to meet with people in the community and share what the company is about. Global Frontline Solutions has worked throughout the United States providing a full line of services related to land and fire management.
