BISD sets calendar for 2012-13

The Borger Independent School District has set its calendar for the 2012-13 school year.
The first day of school for Borger students will be August 27, 2012, and the final day will be May 31, 2013.
Students and staff will have the Labor Day holiday off on September 3, and the Thanksgiving holiday is set from Nov. 21-23, 2012. The Christmas holiday is set from Dec. 24-Jan. 2. President’s Day is Feb. 18 and spring break is set for March 11-15, 2013. A Memorial Day holiday will be observed on May 27.

High School Softball Playoff Series scheduled

The Borger Lady Bulldogs and Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles have scheduled their Bi-District Playoff Round series.
The Borger Lady Bulldogs will begin the 3A playoffs by taking on Lamesa in a best-of-three series in Littlefield.
Game one of the series will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28th with game two to follow. If a third game is necessary, it will take place on Monday, April 30th at 6:00 p.m. in Luttlefield.

Muriel Leslie Turner

Muriel Leslie Turner, 88, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Borger.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Highland Park Cemetery with Rev. Bill Ratchford, Cross Community Church of God, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.

Answers sought in business burglary

The Borger Police Department and Crime Stoppers are seeking the assistance of the public pertaining to the recent burglary of a business.
On the morning of Sunday, April 15, 2012, at around 9:40 a.m., officers from Borger PD responded to 1030 Megert Circle in reference to a business burglary.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department said that when officers began investigating the burglary, it was found the incident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. that Sunday morning.

Comanches clinch post season berth with win over Claude

West Texas High had two games left on their District schedule on Saturday and they needed just one win out of the two for a playoff spot. They did it, at Claude, in a close one 8-7. The Tribe did an exceptional job defensively, with a double play, and individual effort by all to just keep the ball in front of them. Jess Shields got the win, pitching 5.2 innings, and Carlos Juarez threw the last 1.1 innings. Shields struck out 2 and walked 4, Juarez struck out 2 and walked none.

Borger AD accepts job in Taylor

On Monday evening, Borger Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Rusty Purser accepted the AD/Head Football position for Taylor ISD.
Taylor is a 3A school with an enrollment around 880 students located in the Austin area. The Ducks football team went 3-8 in 2011, but were able to reach the playoffs where they lost to eventual state champions Wimberley 38-31 in the Bi-District round.

Margie Lavonne Williams, 81, died Thursday, April 19 in Amarillo.
Memorial service will be Monday, April 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church in Pampa, with Rev. Paul Nachtigall, Pastor officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Margie was born June 27, 1930 to Walter C. Baker and Clara (Murray) Baker in Hartley, Texas. She lived in the community for 12 years and was a member of Highland Baptist Church of Pampa.

BISD board cancels election

The Borger ISD board of trustees has officially canceled its election.
Action was taken on the election cancellation during the regular meeting of the board last Tuesday.
A certification of election was passed, declaring Bill Myers, Todd Harris, and Diedre Hood as unopposed candidates who are elected to the trustee positions.
The board also adopted an order canceling the election and a resolution making the action final. Myers, Harris, and Elaine Feese were each up for reelection this year. However, Feese has chosen not to run for another term.

Rangers hang on to beat the Bulldogs, 5-3

On Saturday afternoon, the Perryton Rangers jumped out on top of the Borger Bulldogs early and were able to hang on for a 5-3 win in District 1-3A action at Huber Park.
The Bulldogs had a couple of opportunities to either tie the game or take the lead. But good Ranger defense and a big break in the fourth inning kept a late Bulldog rally from taking place.
Perryton opened the game by hitting a lead-off double and RBI single to take a 0-1 lead on the first two pitches of the game.
Before the Bulldogs could get off the field, two errors led to two more Ranger runs, making it a 0-3 game.

Another late rally give Rangerettes win over the Lady Bulldogs

On April 10th, the Perryton Rangerettes used a seventh inning rally to get the 10-9 win over the Lady Bulldogs in Perryton.
On Saturday afternoon, late inning heroics took place again, as the Rangerettes scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to escape Borger with a 3-2 win in District 1-3A action.
In the top of the first inning, the Rangerettes took a 0-1 lead off a passed ball at home plate. But the Lady Bulldogs quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning with Alex Lopez hitting a triple and being brought in on a RBI single by Dakota Karins.
