DALHART-On Friday evening, the Dalhart Golden Wolves used a 12-1 run to end the third period helping them to pull away for the 65-37 win over the Borger Bulldogs in District 1-3A play.
Despite the Bulldogs’ having a combination of a 26% shooting percentage and 24 turnovers, Borger was only down by seven points with about 3:00 minutes to go in the third period. However, nine of the team’s turnovers took place in the fourth period leading to the Wolves outscoring Borger 23-11 in the final eight minutes.
On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles started out slow and not up to par against a feisty Bushland Lady Falcon team. It was a fight from tipoff with a lot of physical rough-housing.
The Lady Eagles managed to keep their lead throughout the first quarter, in a pretty well even match with Sanford-Fritch on top 14-12.
To start the second quarter, Sanford-Fritch came out a little sluggish and let the Lady Falcons sneak back in with a 10-4 run, helping Bushland take the lead at halftime, 25-22.
The West Texas Comanches saw any hope of a playoff appearance go up in smoke last night. The Tribe hosted the Canadian Wildcats on Senior night in the final District game between the two schools due to realignment. The Comanches kept pace with the Wildcats in the first quarter, but Canadian’s defense held WT to single digit scoring in the second and third quarter to easily win the game 52-34.
On Friday evening, the Dalhart Lady Wolves outscored the Borger Lady Bulldogs 12-0 in the second period on their way to the 53-30 win in District 1-3A play.
The Lady Bulldogs played tough in the first half, but offensive woes kept the team scoreless in the second period, allowing Dalhart to build a 5-23 lead at halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs came out playing better in the second half, but the deficit proved to be more than the team could overcome.
The West Texas Comanches gave it their best shot, and it was certainly much better than the last time the two teams met. It was Senior night at Comanches gym, and the Lady Tribe battled the stronger, taller Canadian Wildcats, but they were too much to handle as WT lost 55-28. With the new realignment, looks like this will be the last District contest between the two teams as Canadian will be moving up to 2A next year.
On Friday night, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles met for the second time against a tough Bushland team. Quick and good shooting helped the Falcons pull ahead early. Sanford-Fritch stayed fairly close in matchup in the first quarter only trailing 14-6. The constant run-n-gun offense of the Falcons was tough to manage when Sanford-Fritch shots wouldn’t fall. Bushland began to then develop a big lead by halftime 29-8.
Two of the candidates for Hutchinson County Sheriff shared their campaign platforms during the monthly meeting of the Hutchinson County Republican Women on Thursday.
