Plainsmen open WJCAC play hosting New Mexico JC

March 2, 2012

This weekend the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen (4-11) baseball team will begin WJCAC play hosting the New Mexico Junior College T-Birds (9-3).
The Plainsmen enter conference play struggling at the plate averaging only three runs over the last seven games.
Despite the scoring woes, several Plainsmen have done a good job putting the ball in play, led by Joel Villarreal hitting .341 in 14 games and Cesar Wong and Alfonso Aguilar who are both hitting .300 and have driven in 21 RBIs combined. Nolan Hoskins leads the team in homeruns with two.

Borger Soccer t-shirts on sale now

The Borger High School Soccer Team t-shirts are now on sale. Two designs are available: one for girls and one for guys.
All shirts are black. The girls’ logo has soccer written across the chest in a zebra print and outlined in red. It says Borger, Lady Dawgs in red and has two soccer balls flying around the logo. Boys’shirts depict a soccer ball with wings in the middle outlined in red. It reads Borger Soccer outlined in red.

Deborah Monk

Deborah Monk, 59, of Weatherford, TX, passed away, Monday, February 27, 2012.
Deborah Cloud Monk was born October 5, 1952 in Mansfield, LA to Barnett Cloud Sr. and Willie Lee (Thompson) Lollis. She married Paul Monk on May 1, 1976 in Dallas, TX. Deborah was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Willie Lee Lollis; her step-mother, Louella Cloud; her brother, Barnett Cloud Jr.; her daughter, Rachael Sahr; and infant granddaughter.

GPCH welcomes leap year baby!

GPCH welcomed a leap year baby! Diego Armando Gonzales was born on February 29, 2012, at 2:28 a.m., weighing seven pounds and 11 ounces. He was 22 inches long. Parents are Cody Jo Gonzales and Jose Barejas Gonzales.

Officials respond to Fritch mobile home fire

March 2, 2012

A mobile home in Fritch burst into flames Thursday afternoon.

Around 11:57 a.m. on Thursday March 1, 2012, Fritch Fire Department received a call stating a structure was on fire.
Upon arrival, Fritch firefighters found a fully engulfed trailer house. The fire also ignited a truck and stared a grass fire. 

According to Hutchinson County Fire Marshal, Danny Richards, the National Park Service responded with mutual aid and contained the grass fire while Fritch controlled the structure fire.

Veteran donates painting to RFL raffle

A former Marine is donating an original painting to the Relay For Life cause.
Nester Hernandez, a former Marine Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp, has donated an original painting, “Walk by Faith,” to be raffled off to benefit Relay For Life of Hutchinson County.

Hereford Whitefaces gets past the Borger Bulldogs, 11-2

In the first week of the season, the areas of concern for the Borger Bulldogs were errors and giving up too many walks. On Wednesday evening the Bulldogs did a better job in both areas, but the team struggled offensively in their 11-2 loss to the Hereford Whitefaces out at Huber Park.
The Whiteface pitching staff did a good job working the plate limiting the Bulldogs to three hits while striking out 10 batters in the game.
In the top of the second inning, the Whitefaces took a 0-5 lead on a RBI single, a three RBI triple, and a passed ball at home plate.

Eagles expect to see success on the baseball diamond in 2012

The Sanford-Fritch Eagles baseball team enters 2012 expecting to have a good season and to compete for a playoff berth in District 1-2A.
In 2011, the Eagles faced several difficult issues on and off the baseball field which took its toll in the win-loss column.
Since last season, the Eagles baseball program is experiencing a fresh start under the leadership of new head coach Adam Watson.
Watson has the luxury of seven lettermen returning from last season, led by Tate Murray, Caleb Manzella, Christian Ward, and Jarred Goodwin.

Thomas Randall “Randy” Townsend

Thomas Randall “Randy” Townsend, 57, of Borger died Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Randy was born January 24, 1955 in Borger to William Randell Townsend and Tommie (Pierce) Townsend. He was a lifetime Borger, Pampa resident, and member of Central Baptist Church in Pampa.
Survivors include his two sisters; Jeanne Eakin and husband Russell, Karla Davis and husband Chris, both of Pampa, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
