PAMPA – Johnny Belt, 69, died April 26, 2012, in Pampa, TX.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 30, 2012, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with Joel Osborne, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Belt was born November 16, 1942 in Kellyville, Oklahoma. He married Jane Elder on July 3, 1964 in Clayton, New Mexico. He worked and lived in Borger and Pampa for many years before permanently moving to Pampa in 1983.

National Day of Prayer set for May 3

The National Day of Prayer ceremony in Borger is less than a week away!
Charlotte Martin, who is coordinating the event, said the public is invited to attend the ceremony, set for 12 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Veteran’s Memorial in Huber Park.
“This year’s theme is ‘One Nation Under God’ and the scripture is Psalms 33:12: ‘Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord,’” she said. “The 2012 Honorary Chair is Dr. David Jeremiah.”

WTHS students “deck the hall teal”

Students from West Texas High School and Middle School “Decked the Hall Teal” to show support for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
With the support from City of Stinnett; their sponsor, Kathleen Patterson; and the Hutchinson County Crisis Center, the students placed teal pinwheels and 97 teal flags in the front lawn of City Hall.

Blood drive to be held in Stinnett

Local citizens are encouraged to come and help save a life during the upcoming blood drive at West Texas High School.
The high school is hosting a school and community blood drive from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012, in the WTHS Commons Area, located at 600 Stewart in Stinnett. The drive is being held in conjunction with Coffee Memorial Blood Center.
Sally Kossey, a teacher with WTHS, said the decision to donate blood is an important one, because donors are the only source of blood in the High Plains Region.

Borger Lady Bulldogs ready to take on Lamesa in Bi-District Playoff

On Saturday morning, the Borger Lady Bulldogs Softball team (17-14) will begin its best of three 3A Bi-District playoff series against the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes in Littlefield.
The Lady Bulldogs, after posting a 15-7 non-district record, were poised to make a run for the District 1-3A title. However, the Lady Bulldogs had to make their road to the playoffs dramatic by dropping their first four district games and needed a strong finish to clinch the final district playoff berth over Dalhart.

FPC Lady Plainsmen host Clarendon College in final home games

On Saturday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen will host Clarendon College in a WJCAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at LINN Energy Park in Johnson Park.
The series will be the final home games for the Lady Plainsmen for the 2012 season.
The Lady Plainsmen are battling El Paso Community College for the final WJCAC berth into the Region V Tournament.
The Lady Plainsmen wrap up the 2012 regular season on Sunday in a two game series against Clarendon College in Clarendon.

Faith a big key to success for Borger Tennis Duo

This year, athletes like Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin have gained a lot of attention for using their place in the sports world as a tool to share about their Christian faith. The same can be said for the Borger Mixed Doubles team of Abbie Madden and Alix Whitworth, who on Monday will take part in the 3A State Tennis Tournament down in Austin.
When talking to the two Borger High School seniors, both are quick to point out that they are thankful to the Lord for their opportunities for success on the tennis court.

PSPCISD replacing books with IPads

Plemons–Stinnett-Phillips High School students and teachers are stepping up in the technology world with IPads.
The PSPCISD Board of Trustees discussed prices and benefits of placing IPads into the hands of high school students during its meeting Tuesday night.
A proposal was approved to buy 20 packs of 10 IPads (200 IPads) for students along with a Macbook and sync cart that will allow teachers to sync apps to 30 IPads at a time. The total cost is about $119,684, plus a extra $2,000 for protective covers.

HCSO to host “Take 25 event” at Wal-Mart

The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office is doing its part to ensure the safety of children across the area.
The office, in partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, will observe National Missing Children’s Day this year with participation in the national Take 25 child safety campaign. A child ID program will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19, 2012, at the Borger Wal-Mart.
