Lockney takes care of Comanches in game 1 of Bi-District playoff

West Texas High took on the Lockney Longhorns Thursday night at West Texas A&M in game one of the best two out of three series. Things did not go the way of the Comanches as they committed 5 errors, left eight base runners stranded, and their hitters struck out 11 times, in a 13-2 loss. Carlos Juarez was the losing pitcher for WT. Juarez is WT’s go to pitcher but he left the game in the middle of the third inning. Juarez allowed 10 runs, six of them unearned. He struck out three batters. Alex Ramirez pitched one and a half innings. He allowed three runs and struck out two.

FPC Lady Plainsmen add post player from Highland Park

The Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen Women’s Basketball team has signed Sharley Hale, a 6-0 forward from Amarillo Highland Park.
On why she picked Frank Phillips College, Hale commented, “The reason that I have chosen Frank Phillips is because it’s very close to home. The coach and the girls were very welcoming and heart warming.” Hale added, “When I first began playing basketball, I always had this dream in the back of mind to go play basketball at Frank Phillips. Now that I have signed my letter of intent I can officially say that I have fulfilled that dream in life.”

Muriel Margaret White, 94, died Tuesday May 1 at St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Panhandle.
Rosary will said at 6:00 p.m. Friday at Minton Memorial Chapel and Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Borger with Msgr. Michael Colwell officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

FPC commencement set for Friday

On Friday evening, Frank Phillips College will have its commencement ceremony for over 150 students who have applied for graduation this spring.
The ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the BCAC.
This year’s commencement speaker is Mr. Robin Adkins.

High Plains Animal Hospital demolishes old facility

The High Plains Animal Hospital building, 1335 South Main Street, has stood tall since 1947.
Yesterday, May 2, 2012, owner Dr. Joe Millhouse, DVM, took the privilege to hit the clutch on the bulldozer and tear down the old hospital. Construction for the new building started back in September of 2011 and it opened only three weeks ago.
“It’s like going from a model T to a Maserati,” said Millhouse.

Council splits over zoning request

The Borger City Council voted to approve the placement of a manufactured home on commercial property at its regular meeting Tuesday. However, the approval didn’t come without a split decision.
The council approved the request for a specific use permit to place a manufactured home in the rear of 1415 West Wilson, a request made by Arvind Patel. The home will be placed near the Hampton Inn.
Robert Vinyard and Leon DeWeese voted to approve the request, with Charles Gillingham and Bubba Dickson voting against the request. Mayor Jeff Brain cast a vote to break the tie and approve the request.

Frank Phillips College Boy’s Basketball Camp scheduled

Frank Phillips College Men’s Head Basketball Coach Chris Hackett will be hosting a boy’s basketball camp on Tuesday, May 29th through Friday, June 1st at the BCAC. The camp is open to boys ages 7-17 and is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. each day.
In the camp, Hackett and the FPC Coaching Staff will focus on fundamentals including shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, defense, and individual offense. The camp will also feature 1-on-1, 3-on-3, and 5-on-5 leagues, daily competitions, and camp prizes and certificates.

Bulldogs square off with the Lobos in Bi-District Playoffs

On Thursday evening, the Borger Bulldogs (9-13) will have the rare luxury of opening up the playoffs on their home field when they take on the Levelland Lobos (21-7) in game one of a best-of-three series in the 3A Bi-District Playoff Round.
The Bulldogs and Lobos are not complete strangers on the baseball diamond, as the two teams were district foes prior to the last realignment back in 2009 and 2010.

Emma Elizabeth Moser was born September 11, 1924 and passed away April 26, 2012 at her home in Greeley, Colorado. She was preceded by her husband Jean Walton Moser, June 3, 1985. Also preceding her in death are her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank L. Cox, one granddaughter, Wendy Lynn Burleigh, as well as 5 siblings.

Vikki Mayers, 52, of Fritch, passed away, Sunday, April 29, 2012.
Vikki Louise (Mangels) Mayers was born Tuesday, December 8, 1959 in Wichita, KS to Floyd and Velma (Soyner) Mangels. She married Lonnie Mayers on January 27, 1995 in Ulysses, KS.
She is preceded in death by her husband.
