A graveside service for Syracuse, Kansas resident, Colleen Shedeck will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Coolidge Cemetery in Coolidge, Kansas with her daughter Vicki Wilson officiating.
Visitation for Mrs. Shedeck will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon on Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Peacock Funeral Home.
Colleen was born July 23, 1922 at Coolidge, Kansas to Harry Lance and Ann L. (Laubach) Crittenden and passed away at the Holly Nursing Care Center in Holly, Colorado on April 4, 2012 at the age of 89.
Ross Sherman Josephson, age 97, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Countryside Nursing and Rehab Center in Pilot Point.
He was born Feb. 28, 1915, to Frank and Sella Josephson in Washburn, N.D. He graduated from North Dakota State University with a civil engineering degree. He was a maintenance supervisor for Phillips Petroleum for 38 years. He married Maxine Elizabeth Hill in Borger, Texas on April 15, 1945.
Frank Phillips College is making preparations for its upcoming Agriculture Appreciation Day.
The event is set for Wednesday, April 11, outside of the Borger Community Activity Center, located on the FPC campus. The morning session will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The afternoon session will start at 12:30 p.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
The focus of the event will be teaching local children about the life on the farm, as well as animal safety.
Parents or children interested in attending can call Beckford at 806-457-4200, extension 821. Nearly 800 children are expected to attend the event.
Volunteers are needed for the upcoming United Way Day of Caring.
This yearâ€™s event is scheduled for Saturday, April 28. Activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Huber Park with coffee and breakfast. Teams will depart at 8 a.m. to begin work on their designated projects.
Teri Hogue, who works with the Hutchinson County United Way, said the Day of Caring is a special day when companies and individuals come together to complete projects that benefit people within the community.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Borger Lady Bulldogs put together a solid game out on the field and got a good performance in the pitcherâ€™s circle by sophomore Taylor Hickman. Unfortunately the solid effort would not lead to a win, as the Pampa Lady Harvesters used a dominating pitching performance by Alexa Oâ€™Brien to leave Agnes Howe Park with the 7-0 win in District 1-3A play.
Oâ€™Brien pitched seven innings giving up just two hits and no runs, while striking out 12 Lady Bulldog batters.
On Wednesday evening, the Borger Bulldogs struggled early in their 8-3 loss to the Pampa Harvesters in District 1-3A play.
The Harvesters racked up all eight of their runs by the top of the fourth inning, while the Bulldogs didnâ€™t get a base hit until the third inning.
The Harvesters opened the game scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
Pampa pitcher James Thompson had a solid outing on the mound going seven innings giving up three runs on five hits.
The final round of the District 7-1A boys golf tournament was held at the Borger Country Club golf course on Tuesday, April 3rd. West Texas Highâ€™s Nathan Forrest shot a final round of 71 to go with his previous round of 70 for a total of 141 to take second place overall in the district tournament..
West Texas Highâ€™s Justin Hawthorne shot a final round of 77 to go with his previous round of 79 for a total of 156. to take third place overall ..
Both young men have qualified for the Regional Golf Tournament to be held in Lubbock on April 16th&17th at the Lakeridge Country Club golf course.
In their first game after being ranked in the top 25 in Class 1A by the TGCA on Tuesday, the West Texas High Lady Comanches found themsevles in a tough battle against the Booker Lady Kiowas in District 6-1A play.
The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, where the Lady Comanches were able to bring in the winning run to keep from going into extra innings.
Erin Summers had a good game in the pitcherâ€™s circle for the Lady Comanches giving up two runs and four hits.
The win improves the Lady Comanches to 11-8 overall and to 3-2 in district play.
West Texas High hosted the Booker Kiowas Tuesday afternoon in a clash of the tribes. The Comanches were hoping to remain perfect going into the game with a 3-0 record. The Comanches committed eleven errors in a 16-6 loss and they struggled at the plate. Jess Shirley took the loss with two strike outs, he allowed ten hits and seven earned runs. Carlos Juarez closed the last two innings allowing just two hits and three earned runs.
The Borger High School Girls A Golf team sits in second place after the first round of the District 1-3A Golf Tournament in Dumas on Monday.
The Borger A team shot a 400, putting them 25 strokes behind Pampa who leads the tournament with a 375.
The Borger B team is currently in third place after posting a team score of 452.
Pampaâ€™s Allison Alexander sits as the leader in the individual standings after shooting an 89.
Borgerâ€™s Clarice Myers is in fourth place overall after posting a 94.
The final round of the District 1-3A Golf Tournament will take place next Monday, April 9th in Dumas.
