VFW makes donation on behalf of Hutchinson County Junior Livestock Show

VFW Post 1789 recently made a donation on behalf of the Hutchinson County Junior Livestock Association for its upcoming stock show. Present for the giving of the donation were Ron Marshall and Joe Childress of the VFW, Sarah Ratliff, sales committee chair for the association; stock show participants Jess Shields, Fletcher Moneymaker, Megan Prall, Ashby McWilliams, and Leah Stroud; Robert Malone, VFW Quartermaster, and Donald Depew of the VFW.

Borger ISD board meeting Tuesday

The Borger ISD board of trustees will be meeting Tuesday evening.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in the board room of the BISD administration building, 200 East Ninth.
The board will administer the oath of office to new board member Bill Myers, who will be filling the spot recently vacated by longtime member Johnny Rusten. A public hearing will also be held on the AEIS report for 2010-11.
Campus and district reports will be given on Borger Middle School, Crockett Elementary School, and Paul Belton Early Childhood Center.

Lady Plainsmen ready to open conference play against Odessa College

January 16, 2012

Tonight the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen (5-10) get WJCAC play underway hosting the Odessa College Lady Wranglers (11-5) starting at 5:45 p.m. at the BCAC.
The Lady Plainsmen enter tonight’s contest surviving a tough non-conference schedule, which included road games with three top 20 teams and games with solid teams from Cochise College and Howard College.

Plainsmen plan to make some noise in WJCAC play

Tonight the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen (8-8) will put a three game winning streak and an undefeated record in the BCAC this season on the line, when they host the #10 Odessa College Wranglers (15-1) in both teams’ WJCAC Conference opener beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Thanks to the mixture of a new coaching staff and 12 new faces on the team, the Plainsmen were forced to start the season learning how to play together in the early part of their non-schedule.

W.F. “Bill” Montrose, 84, of Borger, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 in Amarillo.
Services will be 2pm. Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Minton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dwight Kirksey of Celebration Family church in Fritch officiating. Interment will follow in the “Field of Honor” at Westlawn Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Event Center committee continues exploring possibilities

January 14, 2012

The committee doing in-depth research into the possibility of bringing an air conditioned and heated event center to Hutchinson County is still at work on the project. The idea was brought to the table in April of 2010 and is taking on new life as progress is being made.
“The search committee was formed in an effort to validate whether an event center would work here,” said committee chair Mark Mitchell.

Keeping Fritch schools cool

The Sanford-Fritch ISD Board of Trustees has called a special meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2012 at 7 p.m. in the SFISD Administration Building Board Room. Trustees will consider or approve the “Cool Schools” Grant construction contract with Trane Company. This grant helps public schools replace old, inefficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Superintendent Jim McClellan, stated the grant gave the district about $450,000 to replace HVAC systems for all three campuses in the district, excluding the gyms and Administration offices.

FPC hoop teams open WJCAC play Monday

January 14, 2012

The Frank Phillips College men’s and women’s basketball teams begin WJCAC Conference play this Monday evening, January 16th against Odessa College.
The Plainsmen and Lady Plaisnmen will be at home every Monday for the next seven weeks in conference action.
On the men’s side, this Monday the Plainsmen (8-8)play the #10 Odessa College Wranglers, who are 15-1.
Next Monday, January 21st, the Plainsmen we host South Plains College, who are 15-0 and #3 in the nation.
Currently the Plainsmen are undefeated in Borger this season

FPC Girls Basketball team named All-Academic Team....see sports for more.
  The Future Lady Bulldog Basketball Camp will be held on July 14th through the 17th.
