DUMAS-For their first year participating in high school soccer at the varsity level, it is hard not to be somewhat impressed with fact that the Dumas Demons are flirting with a .500 record and can clinch a playoff spot with a Canyon loss or tie to Pampa on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately that shot at a District 5-4A playoff berth will come at the expense of ending the Borger Bulldogs season on Friday night, as the Demons were able to come away with the 3-1 victory at Demon Stadium.
Friday afternoon old district foes tangled at Huber Park with the Lubbock Estacado Matadors in town to take on the Borger Bulldogs in non-district baseball action.
The Matadors have been one of the better 3A baseball programs in West Texas over the past couple of years and would be a good challenge for the Bulldogs as they get closer to District 1-3A play.
Friday’s contest would be a tight one with neither team pulling away to more than a one run lead. However the Matadors would get the one run they needed in the top of the eighth inning to leave Borger with the 6-5 win.
After taking the trip north to take on Otero Junior College Lady Rattlers in a two game series on Wednesday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen and the Rattlers faced off once again on Thursday in a two-game series here in Borger.
On Wednesday, the two teams would split the series and on Thursday the teams saw the same result as the Lady Plainsmen won game one, 6-5 while Otero came out on top in game two, 6-5.
Lady Plainsmen sophomore pitcher Kiana Levy did a good job on the mound in game one, giving up just five runs on seven hits while striking out six Lady Rattler batters.
After a rough weekend in Midland, the Borger Bulldogs were ready to get back into the win column when they took on the Amarillo River Road Wildcats in a doubleheader at Huber Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs didn’t put together a pretty performance, which included committing a combined 12 errors in the two games. However, the home team did enough to pull out a pair of 11-10 wins to improve to 8-8-1 on the season.
Game 1: Borger 11 River Road 10
The Wildcats got off to a good start in game one by using a two RBI single in the top of the first inning to take an early 0-2 lead.
(Boys) Randall 3 Borger 1
Going into last night the Borger Bulldogs were hoping to leave Kimbrough Memorial Stadium with a win or a tie in order to take a one point or half a point lead over Dumas and Canyon for the fourth playoff spot in District 5-4A.
Unfortunately, the Randall Raiders ruined those plans by getting the 3-1 win over the Bulldogs to send their record to 3-7-1 in district play, 6-11-1 overall, while keeping their district point total at 3.5.
The Raiders struck early when Hutton Sharp scored the first goal in the game in the 10th minute to take a 0-1 lead.
