West Texas High’s Comanches opened up district baseball with a disappointing 7-5 loss to Follett Saturday. The Comanches made four costly errors, but made a great comeback attempt in the bottom of the final inning. They had the runners on base, but just couldn’t get them across home plate.

There are times in sports when one miscue just seems to lead to the opening of the floodgate for several more to follow before a team can finally regroup.
For the Borger Lady Bulldogs, four of the five innings of their District 1-3A opener had the team holding their own with district rivals, the Pampa Lady Harvesters. However in the top of the third inning, a couple of walks and fielding errors opened the door for the Lady Harvesters to score nine runs before the Lady Bulldogs could regroup, giving Pampa the momentum they needed to leave Agnes Howe Park with the 16-2 win.

In the early days of the Borger Lady Bulldog Soccer program, finding consistent success on the field was something that the team struggled with, including coming up short in finding a way to get into post-season play.
Fortunately, things have changed over the past several years, as the Lady Bulldogs will take part in the 4A playoffs for the fourth year in a row when they take on the Abilene Wylie Lady Bulldogs in the Region I Area Round on Monday afternoon in Wichita Falls.

The Broncos opened the first game strong at the plate by scoring three runs in the first inning.
However, the Plainsmen used good second and third innings to score seven runs to take a 7-3 lead where they were able to hang on for the 7-4 win.
When Head Coach Steve Watkins took over the Borger Lady Bulldog softball program before the 2009 season, the varsity squad was one that had seen a couple of years of struggles on the field and was a program thin in upperclassmen leadership.
As a result, Watkins was forced with the task of putting together a varsity team full of sophomores and freshmen that was a little green in some of the fundamentals of the game, which in turn led to the team taking a couple of lumps the past two years on the field.
