Friday evening, the Borger Bulldogs running game and smothering defense had its way against the Perryton Rangers, resulting in a 32-14 win at Bulldog Stadium.
Borger senior Ty Brown used 36 carries to rush for 304 yards and four touchdowns, while the Rangers were held to just 160 yards of total offense.
The win allows the Bulldogs to finish District 1-3A play with a 3-0 record and gives the team a 10-1 district mark in three seasons Rusty Purser has been head coach. The Bulldogs have also won their third straight District 1-3A title.
It was simple last night for West Texas High. Win the ball game and earn the third place playoff sport in what is probably the toughest 1A District in the state, or lose and start basketball season. The Stratford Elks have been to the state playoffs since 1998, including some recent runner up finishes and a couple of State Titles. If memory serves me, the last time the Tribe has won against the Elks, was 2001. The Comanches handled their business 16-7. So, “How about them Comanches?”

Lady Plainsmen Head Coach Eric Rodewald was impressed with his team's start, saying, “We were firing on all cylinders out of the gate and cooled off a little bit as the game progressed.”
Rodewald added, “Our post really stepped up and played well.”

For the second year in a row, the Lady Comanches went through District 5-1A play undefeated by playing solid defense and having an offense that continues to improve.

First year Plainsmen Head Coach Chris Hackett has already worked hard to change the culture within the program, making the team one the Borger community can proudly support and enjoy on and off the court.
Going for another outright district title
Tonight, the Borger Bulldogs will try to win their second outright District 1-3A title in a row and/or a share of the title for the third year in row against the Perryton Rangers.
A win over Perryton will give Borger the district title outright and extend their district winning game streak to six games, while a loss would lead to the Bulldogs sharing the district title with Perryton and potentially Dalhart.
The Rangers have been an up and down team this season, but have impressive wins over Canadian, Stratford and Pampa.
The Borger Lady Bulldogs didn’t have long to celebrate their 3A Bi-District playoff round win over Lamesa on Tuesday. The team has to swing back around and travel to Seminole tonight to take on the Clint Lady Lions in the 3A Area playoff round.
Borger Interim Head Coach Ken Barbour was pleased with the team’s performance, saying, “Lamesa has a style that can get a team out of sync. However, our defense adapted easily and allowed our offense to put the ball on the floor for many impressive kills.”
The Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen opened the 2011-12 season on a high note by defeating Trinidad State College 75-55 in Trinidad, Colo.
