With nearly 30 players being replaced due to graduation, the Borger Bulldog football team will be one that will have several new faces at the varsity level when it opens the 2011 season with the Canyon Randall Raiders at Bulldog Stadium on August 26.
However, the team will return several outstanding players from this year’s squad, with a couple already attracting the attention of some colleges around the country.
During the May FPC Board of Regents meeting, FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks told the board that the college has decided to suspend the Plainsmen Golf program starting this fall.
This spring, the FPC Golf program was placed on probation by the NJCAA for exceeding the number of scholarships provided to non-U.S. resident students and number of athletes being provided with financial aid.
In talking with Dr. Hicks on Tuesday morning, the college had learned back in December that the golf program had exceeded both numbers, leading the college to turn themselves into the NJCAA.
On Tuesday evening, Borger High School senior Dylan Winkle was selected as the 2010-11 recipient of the T.E. Ward Award.
Qualifications to be nominated for the award include being an outstanding senior male athlete, exemplify the highest moral character, behavior and leadership; regulate his actions at all times so that he will be a credit to the team, school, and community; and display good sportsmanship at all times by being modest in victory and gracious in defeat.
On Tuesday evening, Borger High School senior J’Cee Pool was selected as the 2010-11 recipient of the E. J. Webb Award.
Qualifications to be nominated for the award include being an outstanding senior female athlete; exemplifying the highest moral character, behavior and leadership; regulating her actions at all times so that she will be a credit to the team, school, and community; and displaying good sportsmanship at all times by being modest in victory and gracious in defeat.
The E.J. Webb award is named after longtime Borger Coach E.J. (Jeep) Webb.
Tuesday evening Borger High School senior Sharkita Morrison was named the recipient of the 2010-11 Lynley Herbert Scholarship.
The scholarship was established in June of 2001 in memory of Lynley Herbert, with the first recipient being Tenora Hughes.

PLAINVIEW-On Saturday afternoon, a comeback just was not in the cards for the Borger Bulldogs in their 3A Regional Quarterfinal series with the Lubbock Cooper Pirates.
