On Thursday evening, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen got their first win in WJCAC play by beating the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Broncos 71-70 in Roswell, N.M.
Several Plainsmen had big games including Taquan McDew scoring 18 points, Earl Hill 15 points and 12 rebounds, Ronald Scott 10 points and 8 rebounds, and Alex Zivkovic 7 points and 11 rebounds.
The win improves the Plainsmen to 9-11 overall, 1-3 in WJCAC, while NMMI drops to 8-10 oveall and to 1-3 in WJCAC play.
Tonight the Booker Kiowas (8-8, 1-4) and the West Texas High Comanches (16-9, 1-4) square off in a big District 1-1A game.
Both teams enter tonight with identical 1-4 district records and a win will keep one team right in the hunt for one of the districtâ€™s playoff berths, while the loser will start tp see their playoff hopes look bleak.
In the district opener back on January 10th, the Kiowas came away with the 57-44 win at home, but have failed to win a district contest since.
Thursday afternoon, three Borger Bulldogs were honored as part of the Texas Sports Writers Association 3A All-State team.
Senior Dustin Clark was named Third Team All-State on the defensive line, while senior running back Ty Brown and senior linebacker Miles McKinney earned Honorable Mention honors.

This weekend, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen baseball team will get the 2012 season underway by hosting Luna Community College out of Las Vegas N.M., in a four game series. The first of two doubleheaders will start tomorrow at noon ,with the second doubleheader taking place on Saturday with a noon start as well.
The Plainsmen Baseball program enters the season essentially with a fresh start due to having a new coaching staff and only two players returning from the 2011 team.
The Gruver Greyhounds came away from Stinnett with a win Tuesday night in a tight District contest 37-30. The game was fast paced and mostly a defensive battle. Free throws sank the Tribe in the end, with Gruver making thirteen trips to the free throw line in the second half compared to three for West Texas. The Hounds were 14/23 at the line and WT was 2/4 in the third and fourth quarters. That combined with a three point offensive production in the second quarter was the ballgame.
The West Texas Lady Comanches are still looking for a District win on the hardwood. They started the second half of loop action Tuesday night with a loss to the Gruver Lady Hounds 41-15. WT managed to hang with the Lady Hounds in the first period, trailing by just one point 7-6.
The second quarter got quickly out of hand as Gruver poured in eighteen points while the Lady Comanches two. Gruver was comfortably on top of West Texas at the half 25-8.
BRYAN, Texas (AP) â€” Tenaha quarterback Reginald Davis and Mason defensive back Chance Stockbridge who led their teams to state championships head up the 61st Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Associationâ€™s Class 1A All-State Football Team.
Davis was the Offensive Player of the Year. The 185-pound senior who has pledged to Texas Tech passed for 2,015 yards on 101 of 168 with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also carried the ball 172 times for 1,915 yards with 36 TDs in leading the unbeaten Tigers to the Division 2 title.
(Girls) Sanford-Fritch 44 Childress 23
On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles started the second half of District 1-2A play by easily beating the Childress Lady Bobcats 44-23 in Childress.
Christa White had the hot hand for the Lady Eagles by scoring 16 points, along with three steals, three rebounds, and two assists.
Jacy Judd had nine points and five assists, while Summer Tubbs had a good defensive game by coming up with seven rebounds, three steals and two block shots.
On Monday, Borger High School senior Ty Brown verbally committed to play collegiate football for the Henderson State University Reddies in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Brown will make the second Borger Bulldog to commit to the university this week, after teammate Miles McKinney committed to Henderson State on Sunday.
In 2011, Brown established himself as one of the best running backs in West Texas by rushing for over 1200 yards with 15 touchdowns and earn District 1-3A Offensive MVP honors, despite missing over three games due to a leg injury.
