(A big thank you to Eric Rodewald who covered the Friday night football game in our sports editor's absence.)
In the final non-district contest for the Bulldogs, Borger pounded its way to a 19-0 lead behind the backfield tandem of Dontrae Butler and Kendrick Freeman. The two Borger running backs rushed 58 times for a combined 260 yards before Palo Duro raced back Friday night dropping the Bulldogs in a heartbreaker, 20-19 at Bulldog Stadium.
On October 5th, 1962, the Borger Bulldogs took the field against the Palo Duro Dons in front of a home crowd of 6,000 fans. It was the first district game in a season that has been unmatched by any Bulldog football team ever. On this same day in 2012, we honor those men who were a part of that legendary team.

The Bulldogs (0-4) traveled down the road to Canyon hoping to spoil the 4A Randall Raider's (4-0) homecoming Friday night at Kimbrough Stadium. The Dogs would struggle early in the game, but settled down and came up with some great plays. Although they had some bright moments, they came up on the short side in the contest, 49-6.
The Lady Dawgs played brilliantly in their win over district opponent Dalhart on Tuesday night in Borger. This was the district opener for both teams. The Lady Dawgs won in straight sets, 25-22, 25-22, and 25-19.

The Frank Phillips Lady Plainsmen prevailed in a thriller of a volleyball match against conference foes the NMMI Broncos. FPC took it to five sets, fought hard, and came out on top.
In the first set, the ladies were up early, but NMMI came back to tie it at 12. A kill from Allison Kieweit put FPC up again, but they fell behind 20-18. NMMI would outscore the ladies 5-2 in the final points to take it 25-20.
Set two began with a lot of errors and the Lady Plainsmen found themselves down 5-2. After being down by 5, FPC tied it at 15 but eventually lost it 25-21.
Most of us marvel at how far Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, and Bubba Watson can hit the golf ball. At the Region 5 Finals held at the Winstar Casino Golf Complex this past weekend, there were over 100 competitors that can hit longer than those three. Shawn Holcomb competed in the Open Class Division on Sunday, September 16th. The weather that morning was not ideal for long drives as it was overcast with a wet fairway and a light rain when the competition started. Thankfully there was not much wind.
