On Monday afternoon, the Borger High School Mixed Doubles Team of Alix Whitworth and Abbie Madden fell to Jeremy Rodriguez and Alecxia Ceballos of La Feria 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Tennis Tournament in Austin.
The quarterfinal loss wraps up an impressive year for the Borger duo, who won the District 1-3A title and were runners-up in the 3A Region I Tennis Tournament.
Both Whitworth and Madden are seniors.
The Borger Bulldogs will take on the Levelland Lobos in a best-of-three series in the 3A Bi-District Playoff round on Thursday and Friday. Game one of the series will be played on Thursday at Huber Park in Borger beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Game two and game three, if necessary, will be played Friday evening in Levelland beginning at 5:00 p.m.
LITTLEFIELD-On Saturday, the second inning of both games in the best-of-three 3A Bi-District Playoff series between the Borger Lady Bulldogs and the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes proved to be the deciding factors in Lamesa’s two game sweep 11-3 and 8-0, in Littlefield.
The Lady Bulldogs end the 2012 season with a 17-15 overall record, while Lamesa advances to the Area Playoff Round to take on Pecos.

On Saturday, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen (15-28, 9-15) split their final two games with the Western Texas College Westerners (21-26, 13-11) 1-2 and 7-6.
In game one, the Plainsmen limited the Westerners to two runs, but the Plainsmen couldn’t get much going at the plate resulting in the 2-1 loss.
In game two, the Westerners put together a late rally to take a one run lead into the bottom of the ninth inning.
But the Plainsmen were able to respond by scoring two runs to get the win and avoid the series sweep by the Westerners.
LUBBOCK-The West Texas Lady Comanches traveled a long way down I-27 Saturday night to take on Sundown in the first round of softball playoff action. A nightmarish first inning full of fielding errors gave Sundown an 8-0 lead and had the Lady Tribe in the hole the entire game, and it ended badly after the fifth inning, with WT losing 13-3. In all fairness, four of the main characters on the softball team, had been competing in the Regional Track meet all day Friday and Saturday.
Over the weekend, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team wrapped up the 2012 regular season by taking on rival Clarendon College in WJCAC action..
Each of the four games proved to be tight battles, but the Lady Plainsmen found themsleves on the losing end in each game 9-6, 10-6, 1-0, and 7-3.
The Lady Plainsmen end the regular season with a 12-40 overall record and a 4-20 mark in WJCAC play.
Good pitching by Chayse Tracy, timely hitting, and great defense led the Borger Bulldogs to a 5-2 win over the Pampa Harvesters in the District 1-3A finale for both teams.
Entering the game, the Bulldogs and Harvesters knew Friday night would not be the last time the teams would get to take the field for the 2012 season. But a lot was at stake in Pampa, as the winner of the would claim the district’s number two seed and win the season series between the longtime rivals.
Entering this weekend, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen were four games behind Western Texas College Westerners for the final spot in the Region V Tournament from the WJCAC. A good showing this weekend could make the raise for the spot over the final two weeks interesting.
But after Friday’s doubleheader, the Plainsmen’ post-season hopes took a big hit as Western Texas won both games on Friday 9-5 and 12-3, and move of the Plainsmen by six games in the standings.

On Saturday morning, the Borger Lady Bulldogs Softball team (17-14) will begin its best of three 3A Bi-District playoff series against the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes in Littlefield.
The Lady Bulldogs, after posting a 15-7 non-district record, were poised to make a run for the District 1-3A title. However, the Lady Bulldogs had to make their road to the playoffs dramatic by dropping their first four district games and needed a strong finish to clinch the final district playoff berth over Dalhart.
On Saturday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen will host Clarendon College in a WJCAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at LINN Energy Park in Johnson Park.
The series will be the final home games for the Lady Plainsmen for the 2012 season.
The Lady Plainsmen are battling El Paso Community College for the final WJCAC berth into the Region V Tournament.
The Lady Plainsmen wrap up the 2012 regular season on Sunday in a two game series against Clarendon College in Clarendon.
