On Monday afternoon, the West Texas High Lady Comanches got the 12-6 win over the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles in non-district softball action.
In the top of the second inning, the Lady Eagles put the first run on the scoreboard. But the Lady Comanches responded by scoring four runs in the second and two runs in the third inning to build a 6-1 lead.
The Lady Eagles tried to rally by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
But the Lady Comanches stayed in control of the game by adding six more runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the win.
The West Texas Comanches were back home yesterday to host the Clarendon Broncos on the diamond. The Tribe is trying for their third straight playoff appearance this year. The team picked up a 13-4 win over the Clarendon Broncos. Senior Carlos Juarez got the win, throwing four innings. Juarez allowed four runs, on three hits, just one run was earned. He had six strike outs and walked only one batter. Jess Shields closed the game, pitching the final three innings. Shields did a nice job for the Comanches, allowing no runs, and only one hit. He struck out seven batters and zero walks.
Tonight the Borger Bulldogs (1-3) will host the Hereford Whitefaces in non-district baseball action beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Huber Park.
In the first week of the 2012 season, the Bulldogs showed the ability to put the ball in play and score runs from the plate. But the team experienced some growing pains on the pitcherâ€™s mound and on defense in their losses to Dumas, Amarillo Palo Duro, and Bushland.
On Monday evening, the No. 18-ranked Midland College womenâ€™s basketball team scored 55 points in the second half to pull away for an 87-64 victory over the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen at the BCAC.
The game was the final home game in a Lady Plainsmen uniform for seven sophomores.
The Lady Plainsmen started the game strong to play to a 32-32 tie at halftime.
The Lady Plainsmen had the hot hand from the outside where they hit 14 3-pointers in the game.
When people look at the Frank Phillips College Plainsmenâ€™s record after the season, the win-loss column isnâ€™t going to tell the story of how the team has suffered three heartbreaking losses at home in WJCAC play. First to Odessa College, then New Mexico Junior College and to Midland College last night.
After leading by one at halftime and up 81-79 with 30 seconds to play. The Plainsmen came out on the losing end in their WJCAC game with Midland College 82-81.
Tonight the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen host Midland College in their final home games for the 2011-12 season. The womenâ€™s game will tip off at 5:45 p.m. followed by the men at around 7:30 p.m.
Despite winning their first two tournament games by a combined score of 31-0, the Borger Lady Bulldogs knew they would face a tough challenge in the championship game of the Sanford-Fritch â€śDucks on the Pondâ€ť Softball Tournament against district foes Dalhart.
The Lady Bulldogs didnâ€™t keep the Lady Wolves scoreless, but the team continued to have hot bats at the plate by winning the tournament title with a 19-10 win.
The game was a close battle until the Lady Bulldogs found their groove at the plate and started pulling away at the end of the game.
The Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team had a busy weekend competing in eight games over three days at the Murray State Festival in Tishomingo, Okla.
Over the three days, the Lady Plainsmen posted a 3-5 record.

The Lady Plainsmen bested Rose State College 5-1 in seven innings on Friday as Janelle Smith hit a home run and drove in two runners.
Ashley Abair was a workhorse on the rubber, pitching seven innings and allowed no earned runs, four hits and no walks while striking out five.

AMARILLO-On day one of the Cavalier Classic Baseball Tournament, the Borger Bulldogs saw mixed results on the field by coming way with a big 12-2 win over the Arbor Academy Lions, but struggling in their 10-5 loss to the Amarillo Palo Duro Dons.

After the Lions took a 0-1 lead in the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs took advantage of Lion pitching woes and errors to score eight runs in the bottom of the first inning,
Colton Hunter and Clay Ellis reached base on singles and would come across home plate on two wild pitches to make it a 2-1 score.
On day one of the Sanford-Fritch â€śDucks on the Pondâ€ť Softball Tournament, the Borger Lady Bulldogs and West Texas High Lady Comanches won their opening round games setting up a Hutchinson County Showdown in the semi-finals for Friday at 1:00 p.m..
The two teams got their wins in different fashion, as the Lady Bulldogs had no problems beating the Claude Lady Mustangs 15-0 in three innings, while the Lady Comanches squeaked out a 10-9 win over the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles Black squad.
