On Thursday evening, Borger senior Dustin Clark verbally committed to play football for the University of North Texas.
Clark had an impressive football career for the Borger Bulldogs as a defensive end where he was selected as the District 1-3A Defensive MVP and earned Second Team All-State honors by the Associated Press earlier this week.
Due to his impressive play, Clark had drawn interest from several division one programs, including Wyoming, Kansas, and Vanderbilt.
Clark will join a Mean Green program that went 5-7 in 2011 in Dan McCarney’s first season as head coach of the program.
West Texas High hosted the River Road Wildcats in a non-District basketball contest last night. The Comanches held the Wildcats in check the first half and had an eleven point halftime lead. River Road came back in the second half to make it a close game in the final quarter though, getting within five a couple of times. However, the Tribe kept their composure to hang on for the win 46-35. Alex Ramirez had a stellar performance for WT with 25 points, he went 7-8 at the free throw line, 9 rebounds, 7 steals, and 2 blocked shots.
From time to time in sports you will have a game where the final score doesn’t tell the story on how close a game actually was. Friday night featured one of those games, when the Bushland Falcons and Borger Bulldogs squared off in an entertaining contest at Tex Hanna Gym with the Falcons getting the win 65-58.
The Bulldogs had a good night in shooting 48% on the floor. But 22 turnovers and 34 trips to the free throw for the Falcons caused the Bulldogs to play catch up most of the evening instead of potentially pulling away for a big win.
The West Texas Lady Comanches got a little taste of revenge last night as they took care of business with a win over the Lady Wildcats from River Road. The two met earlier this year with River Road getting the win 52-49. Last night, the tables were turned with the Lady Tribe coming out on top 36-29.
On Friday night, the Bushland Lady Falcons squared off with the Borger Lady Bulldogs in a non-district contest at Tex Hanna Gym.
Through three periods, the Lady Bulldogs were in striking distance to come away with a nice win. However, the breaks continue to not fall the Lady Bulldogs way, as Bushland was able to outscore Borger 18-9 in the fourth period to pull away for the 54-42 win.
Tonight all three Hutchinson county schools will be squaring off in boys and girls basketball action.
The Borger Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will host Bushland at Tex Hanna Gym with the girls tipping off at 6:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 8:00 p.m.
The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive win over Amarillo Highland Park where the team kept the Hornets scoreless in the third period on their way to a 63-38 win.
The Bulldogs will face off with a solid Falcons team who was a pre-season top 25 team in Class 2A.
On Thursday evening, the Borger Bulldogs wrestling team hosted the Amarillo High Sandies in a wrestling duel out at Tex Hanna Gym.
The Bulldog roster is full of underclassman, however the team showed they are continuing to improve on the mat despite falling to the Sandies Black team 48-21 and the Sandies Gold team 70-6.
Against the Sandies Black team, four Bulldog wrestlers left the mat with their hands raised in victory, which included wins by pinfall by Uriel Orona, Zach Robinson, and Dustin Tucker.
The Borger Bulldogs wrestling team will host Amarillo High in wrestling action this afternoon beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Tex Hanna Gym.
On Tuesday evening, the Borger Bulldogs outscored the Amarillo Highland Park Hornets 22-0 in the third period leading them to pull away for a 63-38 win at Tex Hanna Gym.
The win was one of those games were every Bulldog player had at least a rebound or put points on the scoreboard, led by junior Jamon Hearon who scored 22 points in his game back after missing three games due to a leg injury.
The Bulldogs started the game a little slow leading to the Hornets to open the game building a 12-4 lead.
On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs appeared to be on their way to snapping a losing streak by leading throughout their game with the Amarillo Highland Park Lady Hornets up until the 26 second mark of the third period.
But the breaks in the final nine minutes of the game would not go the Lady Bulldogs way, leading to the Lady Hornets escaping Tex Hanna Gym with a 44-41 win.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the game strong by building a 10-2 lead by the 5:00 mark of the first period.
