The West Texas Comanches opened the 2011 football season with a bang Friday night, notching a 35-6 win over former District foe Gruver Greyhounds. The Tribe did well on both sides of the ball with the offense getting 452 total yards. The defense practically shut down the Hounds, holding them to just 73 total yards of offense. Most of that came on Gruver’s lone touchdown, a 45 yard run in the fourth quarter. The score could have and should have been much worse, but the Comanches had three touchdowns called back on penalties.
The 2011 season started a little rough for the Borger Bulldogs on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. In front of a good crowd, the Randall Raiders racked up 248 yards and scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 21 point lead in their 35-7 win over Borger.
Raiders junior quarterback Colin Bowen had a big night on the ground and the air as he rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns while connecting with Logan Brittian for an 89 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
The Sanford-Fritch Eagles had their hands full Friday night with the visiting Golden Wolves of Dalhart.
The first quarter was about working through first game jitters. Dalhart didn’t seem to have any problems moving the ball down the field with the help of Dalhart Senior WR Channing Allen. In the first quarter, Allen received a great pass and ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
Colton Valle, Sanford-Fritch’s All State HM running back from last season, blocked the extra point kickand the quarter ended with Dalhart up 6-0.
