LUBBOCK-In the programâ€™s first-ever appearance in the NJCAA Region V West Softball Tournament on Thursday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen struggled to get much going at the plate in their 7-1 loss to the Howard College Lady Red Hawks.
The Lady Plainsmen managed just two hits through seven innings, while the Lady Red Hawks used big third and fourth innings to score five runs to pull away for the win.
The Lady Red Hawks took a 0-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Olive Naotala brought in Faith Koria from third base on a fielderâ€™s choice to the shortstop.
As the Borger Lady Bulldogs prepare to take on the Andrews Lady Mustangs in the 3A Area Round of the playoffs this weekend, it might be easy for some Borger fans to forget that it was just two years ago that the team was able to collect just one win on the softball diamond. At the time, this couldâ€™ve been considered an improvement from the winless season the varsity squad experienced from the previous year.
West Texas A & M University was the place to be yesterday if you wanted to see the West Texas High School Comanches on the diamond. The Tribe was the visiting team in their first of a best of three series against the Nazareth Swifts. The Comanches are vying for the Bi-District trophy and a chance to move on to the Area round against Clarendon. WT High took control of their destiny in game one with a 6-1 win over the Swifts.
