For sports fans that enjoy a little bit of drama, your wish looks like it is going to be granted in the District 1-3A baseball race for the title.
Going into Saturday’s contest, the Borger Bulldogs needed to win just one of their final two district games to clinch the District 1-3A title outright and earn a first round bye in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs had to make the trip up to Perryton, where the Rangers know how to use the home field advantage as good as any team in the Texas Panhandle.
Going into their series with Western Texas College, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen still had an outside shot of grabbing the fourth playoff spot from the WJCAC if they had a good weekend against the Wranglers in Snyder.
Unfortunately, the Wranglers knew their hopes of claiming that final playoff spot were on the line as well, leading Western Texas to getting the four game sweep over FPC 5-3, 13-8, 4-3, 7-6.
The Plainsmen drop to 19-25 overall, 11-17 in WJCAC play, and will conclude their 2011 season this weekend in Big Spring against Howard College.
