Comanches win district opener over Boys Ranch

The West Texas Comanches opened up District play Friday night in Stinnett with a 21-6 win over the Rough Riders from Boys Ranch. The win sets up a big showdown next week in Canadian, who lost in double over time to Sunray. Every team in the District was ranked in the top 25 in Class A Friday, in what is arguably the toughest 1A District in the state. The Comanches need to cut out the penalties and turnovers to stay competitive within the District, and that is definitely doable.

Coaches talk about proposal to cut down on two-a-days

Earlier this week, the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) medical advisory committee made the recommendation to cut down on the number of two-a-day practices, including banning them from the first four days of training camp.
The medical advisory committee also recommended on days when there is more than one practice, players shall have at least two hours rest in between. Also no team can hold two-a-days on consecutive days.
The rule changes must still be approved by the UIL’s executive committee later this month and then the state commissioner of education.

Comanches open district play, hosting the Roughriders

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, the 5A football district in the Permian Basin area was nicknamed “The Little Southwest Conference” due to the district being loaded with some of the top football programs in Texas.
This year. perhaps District 1-1A Division I needs to be called the “SEC Light” due to having four of the five teams ranked inthe top 25 of TheOldCoach.com football poll and the fifth team just on the outside looking in.

Eagles plan to stay perfect in district against Highland Park

Through their first two games of District 1-2A Division II play, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles have been able to prove they are a lot better than their 0-4 non-district mark by beating Tulia and getting a big win over Floydada last week.
Against the Whirlwinds, the Eagles’ offense was clicking on all cylinders racking up 346 yards on the ground while throwing for another 261.
Junior Colton Valle showed why he is considered one of the best running backs in the Texas Panhandle by scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 236 yards.

Former Borger Bulldogs preparing for upcoming Alumni Game

On Saturday, October 15th former Pampa Harvesters and former Borger Bulldogs will square off at Bulldogs Stadium for the Pampa vs. Borger Alumni Game.
The Bulldogs will feature Borger High School alumni who graduated as recently as this spring to players who graduated in the late 1980s and early 1990s who just have a love for playing the game of football and representing the Borger community.
In preparation for the game, the Borger team has scheduled a “Meet the Alumni” on Thursday evening where the team will workout under the lights of Bulldog Stadium from 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

Perryton tops Borger in five games

On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs ended the first round of District 1-3A play with a loss to the Perryton Rangerettes in five games 19-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-27, 6-15.
Perryton snapped a winning streak the Lady Bulldogs enjoyed over the Rangerettes which stretched over the past six years.
Game one of the match was a close back and forth affair until Perryton closed with 5-2 run to pull away for the win,

Lady Comanches defeat Paducah to remain undefeated in District action

The West Texas Lady Comanches volleyball team is on a roll. They took down the Lady Dragons from Paducah in three 25-17, 25-13, and 25-18, to remain a perfect 5-0 in District play. They maintained control in the first two sets, even though they briefly trailed in the first. The second was all WT as they led all the way through. They trailed most of the third, once by as much as six points, but tied the score at 11, 12, 13, and 14, before they fell behind again. After tying the score at 17, they took control and won it.

Bushland beats Sanford Fritch in three

Anybody around the area knows the Bushland Lady Falcons volleyball team is a powerhouse and the Lady Eagles were able to experience it at home Tuesday. Bushland came to Fritch with big hits and great defense. They used every scheme possible in scoring points. Fritch had some chances to turn things around but in game one the Lady Falcons took advantage of ball placing to win 25-12.
In the second game, Fritch started playing better and making things happen. Senior Jacy Judd hit some down balls to keep the Lady Eagles alive. Bushland did what it took and came away to win 25-15.

Lobos hold off Bulldogs 21-7

WOODROW-A slow start and turnovers proved to maKe the difference in an otherwise evenly fought contest between the Borger Bulldogs and Monahans Lobos on Friday night.
Two Lobo touchdowns in the first quarter and three Bulldog turnovers, which killed promising drives, allowed Monahans to get the 21-7 win at Lubbock Cooper Pirate Stadium, to improve to 5-1 while Borger drops to 2-4.
On the opening kickoff, the Lobos took the ball 52 yards to set up their first drive at the Bulldogs 32 yard line.

Eagles blow past the Whirlwinds 47-19

On Friday night, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles played tough and moved the ball up and down Eagle Field to beat the Floydada Whirlwinds 47-19.
