Weekend concert nets $23,000 for wildfire relief

When Tyler Whatley, Christie Arnall, Josh Reneau and Jared Thomas came up with the idea of staging a benefit concert for the victims of the Fritch wildfire, they only wanted to help in whatever little way they could.
On Tuesday afternoon, that help was bigger than any of them ever dreamed. The group presented the United Way with a donation of $23,000.

Dixon Creek meeting set for June 12

The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Texas Institute for Applied Environmental Research (TIAER) invite residents in the Dixon Creek watershed to a public meeting to discuss the findings from the Recreational Use Attainability Analysis (RUAA) project conducted on Dixon Creek. The meeting will be held June 12 at the Borger City Hall.

City OKs transfer of lots from BEDC

The Borger City Council approved the transfer of three lots in the downtown section of the city on Tuesday evening, giving it ownership of parking lots the municipality already maintains. The three lots were transferred from the Borger Economic Development Corporation.

Local man dies in wreck

A Hutchinson County man was killed on Friday evening, May 30, in an accident in Borger.   
According the Hutchinson County Justice of the Peace Shila Hart, Glen Tanner Farmer, 25, of Borger died from injuries he sustained in an accident when the motorcycle he was operating struck an automobile from the rear at the intersection of 10th Street and Hedgecoke.

Sanford-Fritch High School seniors take turns lighting candles during the baccalaureate service held Thursday evening. The event was the final step for the Class of 2014 before graduation ceremonies this evening.

Hutchinson County now has a few more names of local residents who will be helping local residents recover from the recent wildfire that left hundreds of people without homes.

Graduates to receive diplomas tonight

The high school careers of more than 200 seniors will come to an end this evening during commencement exercises at all three high schools in Hutchinson County.
For Borger High School students, the 2014 graduation ceremony will be begin at 8 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. In all, approximately 170 seniors will receive their diplomas during the Borger Independent School District service.

Commissioners vote to lift burn ban, for now

The Hutchinson County Commissioners Court voted on Wednesday afternoon to temporarily lift the county-wide burn ban in an effort to help rural residents rid themselves of excess trash.
Thanks to the more than 3 inches of rain the area received over the weekend, commissioners felt wildfire conditions in the county were lessened to a point where burning outdoor items was safe.
