Lions Club helping kids go to camp

TLC and Lions Club have been coming together every year since 1949 to create the Texas Children’s Camp. This partnership will allow 75 individuals with special needs and medical conditions to go to summer camp at no cost.
“Texas Lions Camp is a residential camping facility for children with physical disabilities, type 1 diabetes and cancer. The Camp is located on over 500 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and is designed to introduce the “Can Do” philosophy to children dealing with special medical conditions,” according to the Internet.

Commissioners court set to meet Monday

The Hutchinson County Commissioners Court will be holding a regular meeting on Monday March 28, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the Hutchinson County Courthouse in Stinnett. The meeting will start off with any corrections or additions to the minutes from the previous commissioners meeting. The commissioners will then accept any public comments.

Fire agreement with Carson County approved by council

An agreement between the City of Borger and Carson County for fire protection has received official approval.
During a special session held Wednesday afternoon, action on the agreement was approved by the Borger City Council.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said the agreement has been in the works for some time. He said the Borger Fire Department has been responding to fires in the northern part of Carson County as long as he can remember.

Dr. Jock Lee celebrates 30 years in business

Veterinarian Dr. Jock Lee has been in his line of work for 35 years and will celebrate 30 years of owning his own business, located on 600 East Broadway Street in Fritch.
He graduated from veterinary school in August of 1975 from Texas A&M. He is originally from Spearman and moved to Fritch because he was offered the chance to come to FPC to teach veterinarian medicine
However, he said he also came here for the small town atmosphere.
“I like small town areas because I grew up in one,” Dr. Lee said.
He finally settled in Fritch in 1976 and has been there ever since.

WTHS athletic dept. to receive $10,000 from Frito-Lay

The West Texas High School Sports Department recently received notice that it will be receiving a special award.
The department was notified that it won $10,000 From Frito-Lay. It will receive the award as part of the ‘Score for Your School’ promotion and will accept the check from Frito-Lay North America during a special assembly this Friday, March 25 at 9am at the West Texas High School on 600 Stewart Ave., Stinnett.
The department won Frito-Lay’s “Score for Your School” promotion this fall by having the most votes for a Division 1A school in the state of Texas.

“This ‘celebration of life’ brings the Hutchinson County communities together in a unified effort to fight cancer,” Judy Allen, RFL media chair, said.

HutchCares holds annual appreciation banquet

Last night HutchCares held its appreciation banquet for all its volunteers.
The banquet was held at Fairlanes Baptist Church, with a meal, live entertainment, and a silent auction as part of the festivities.
HutchCares is a local organization that helps senior citizens 65 years of age and over stay in their home and live safely and independently for as long as possible. Hutch Cares believes in helping people stay out of expensive facilities and allowing older people to stay at home and have the right to receive appropriate assistance as needed from their family and neighbors.

Borger city council special session set for Wednesday

The Borger City Council will be holding its special session at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, not Tuesday, March 22, as was originally printed in the paper.
The meeting will be held in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
The council will act to cast votes for two nominees to serve as municipal representatives on the Panhandle Rural Transportation Planning Organization.

Fritch Chamber banquet set for April 2

The annual Fritch Chamber of Commerce banquet is coming up in less than two weeks!
The banquet will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the Sanford-Fritch Junior High Cafeteria on Eagle Boulevard.
The 2011 Man and Woman of the Year will be announced and honored during the banquet.
Woman of the Year nominees includes Jessica Grishem, Jady Glosson, Kathy Harrah, Kathy Harris, Jeanie Henson, Tara Huff, Renee Laney, Carolyn Mathews, Sara Ledford, Jeannie Olson, Vicki Wilson, May Wright, and Melanie Wyble.
