BFD seeking more information on Friday fire

Borger firefighters are seeking more information on a fire that occurred this past Friday evening.
On The night of Friday, April 22, 2011, a fire was reported to Borger Fire department around 10 p.m.. The fire was located in a field between Arline and Elise street on the north side of town.
It was reported that neighbors saw kids playing with firecrackers and fled the scene before officials showed up.

Cardiologist speaks to Rotary Club

A doctor from the Amarillo Heart Group was the special guest speaker for the Rotary Club meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Dr. Alan Chu of the Amarillo Heart Group shared about some of the work he does with the Amarillo Heart Group, along with some particulars about peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Suspect arrested for Kimbrell homicide

A suspect has been arrested for the homicide of a local citizen that took place last Thursday.
On Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at approximately 6 p.m., Borger police and Texas Rangers arrested 47-year-old Gregorio Felan for the murder of Lois Kimbrell. Felan, a nearby neighbor to the victim, was processed at the Borger Police Department on the charge of murder, which is a felony of the first degree.

Help needed in concession stand burglary

Over the past four years the Borger Little League Concession Stand, located in the center of the Agnes Howe Youth Baseball Complex, has fallen victim to burglary at least once a season.
This has resulted in the loss of money and food, along with damage to the concession stand that included a broken air conditioning unit in 2010.
This past Saturday, the concession stand once again was broken into and Borger Little League and the operators of the concession stand during the baseball season are asking for the community’s help in catching those responsible.

WTES receives special recognition

West Texas Elementary has yet again been recognized by the Division of NCLB Program Coordination at the Texas Education Agency for outstanding academic performance and received A Distinguished Progress and Distinguished Performance Awards for 2010-2011.
Garey Dozier, principal of WTES, stated that since 1998, the school has received this award 12 times.
In order for a school to get this type of recognition it has to have done the following:
•Maintained a campus residing population of 40% or more low-income in 2010-2011
•Met AYP in 2009 and 2010

HCSO Report for April 10-22, 2011

The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office has the following to report for April 10-22, 2011:

1) Deputies assisted Troopers with a one vehicle accident approximately 5 miles North of Stinnett on Highway 207.

2) Deputies assisted local fire departments with a grass fire on Highway 207 and the Canadian River Bridge, Electric City Area.

3) Deputies were called to the 100 Block of Eagle, Golf Course Addition, on a report of a welfare check.

4) Deputies were called to Gate # 14, Borger Refinery Complex, on a report of a stolen trailer.

Rotary Club set to host Dr. Alan Chu

The Borger Rotary Club will be hosting a special guest at its upcoming Tuesday meeting. The program will be held at Dake's Restaurant, located at 718 N. Main in Borger, Texas. The program will be presented by Dr. A. Alan Chu, M.D., F.A.C.C. Dr. Chu is
associated with the AMAILLO HEART GROUP and his medical practice emphasizes "Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology". Community members are invited to attend.

Vinyard seeking reelection to city council

Robert Vinyard is seeking reelection to the Borger City Council, Place 2.
Vinyard said he was born and raised here in Borger. He spent three years in Norway with Phillips Petroleum Company from 1979 to 1982, but the rest of his time has been spent in Borger.
“Borger is not too big or too small, it’s in the middle of the country, so it’s a good place to travel from, and I like having all four seasons,” he said.
He said his hobby is flying, and is proud that Hutchinson County has a great airport. He served for 10 years on the airport board.

HCSO to conduct Operation Child ID

Throughout the years, there have been various cases of kidnapped children, such as Adam Walsh, Polly Klaas, Jonathan Foster, and others. When such a crime occurs, law enforcement needs as much information as possible, such as photos, descriptions, fingerprints, and DNA, if possible.
According to James Qualls of the Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office, it is the desire of his agency and other law enforcement that such a crime does not happen again.
“However, we must come to grips [with the facts that] this type of crime does occur,” he said.
