Local churches are taking part in the Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child project.
This Christian based organization offers this nationwide project for children everywhere. It all starts with a shoe box. Citizens can donate toys to the churches or build their own shoe box. All you have to do is empty a standard size shoe box or a small plastic container and if you choose you can decorate it as desired, but Christmas wrapping is encouraged.
Hutchinson County Cares, Inc. made a $500 donation on behalf of â€śAiden's Closetâ€ť at Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger. This closet helps meet the needs of expectant and new moms with various items on hand that will be of use to them. Present for the giving of the donation were Lisa Riggle, LVN; Tammy Phares, RNC; and HCC members Jim Bridwell, Anita Crabtree, Toby Nutter, Jerri Aylor, and Roberta Sewell.

On Friday night, the Borger Bulldogs will take on the Lubbock Cooper Pirates in the 3A Division I Bi-District playoff round at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon at 7:30 p.m.
Borger Bulldog fans are asked to wear something black and bring something that makes noise.

The Borger City Council has introduced an ordinance that will provide for the continued taxation of â€śgoods-in-transit.â€ť The council took the action during its regular meeting last Tuesday.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said in 2001, Texas voters approved an amendment to the Constitution which would allow a property tax exemption on â€śgoods-in-transitâ€ť once enabling legislation was passed.

The Borger Area Circle of Friends will host a membership party in support of the Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center on Saturday, November 12, 2011. The party will be held at the Borger Country Club, 7pm-11pm. The theme of the Cocktail Party will be â€śRed, White & Bluesâ€ť, in honor of Veteranâ€™s Day, and will feature Red and White wines from New York and Texas and Blues Band, The Wilkerson Band. There will also be an auction and raffles.
November 12 and 13 brings about Altrusaâ€™s final flea market of the year. This November market traditionally has loads of affordable items great for giving at Christmas. The Aluminum Dome will open its doors at 9:00 a.m. Saturday the 12th and close at 6:00 p.m.
On Sunday the 13th hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Altrusans will keep the concession stand open for business during the showâ€™s open hours, so donâ€™t miss out on the delicious pies, the chicken salad sandwiches, brownies, and lots of other wonderful snacks.
Have you ever found yourself sitting up late at night cutting out squares for your quilt by hand? Or maybe you have had to cut out hearts for your child's Valentine's Day project. Well, you don't have to do that anymore! The Friends of the Hutchinson County Library organization has purchased a ACCUCUT Die Cut machine for the public to use at the Borger Branch of the Hutchinson County Library! This machine can cut any material from paper to fabric to cardboard to craft foam! The Friends of the Library organization has also purchased several die cuts to use with the machine.
An open house will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Arthur house, located at 203 Caliche in Borger. Holger Borwitzky, a German exchange student who graduated from Borger High School in 1965, will be present and would like to visit with friends and classmates. Crockett and Gateway Elementary schools will be honoring our countryâ€™s Veterans on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. It will be held in the Gateway/Crockett cafeteria. A special program will be performed by the students and local Boy Scouts.
All Veterans and their families are invited. If you are a Veteran and plan to attend, please arrive at the cafeteria by 9 a.m. for your special seat.
