"Plant-Effect" snowfall affects Borger

It was hard not to notice the drastic differences in Sunday’s snowfall throughout various parts of town. With some areas receiving only a light frosting, and others a downfall of several inches, one might wonder what the cause is for this seemingly picky blizzard. The Borger News-Herald contacted KVII News Channel 7 Meteorologist Brian James to find the answer.

According to James, the reason for the snow’s behavior lies in two factors: local plants such as the Agrium nitrogen production plant and wind direction.

Borger Police, State Troopers, DEA raid Borger residence; investigation ongoing

Local Police, State Troopers, and Federal Agents have siezed suspected drug money and vehicles from a Borger residence in an ongoing operation.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2014 Federal DEA agents, state DPS agents, and Borger Police Department officers conducted a raid in Borger where Captain Anthony Griffin of the BPD says the three agencies, including the Borger Police Department K-9 Unit, moved on a residence believed to be used by a Mexican drug trafficking organization.

Singing Bulldog performs at Super Bowl Borger Choral Arts department represented on world-wide stage

Sunday, in front of a world-wide television audience and packed football stadium, the Borger Choral Arts Department was represented during the national anthem prior to the Super Bowl 48 football game by a former Singing Bulldog, Casey Elliott.
Elliott is currently serving in the Navy and sings and conducts for the Navy Sea Chanters.
Elliott, of the Borger High School class of 1998, was a three-year All-State Competitor and UIL State Competition Soloist. She went on to sing at Texas tech and was also a vocal student of the late Rosemarie Scott.

Ground broken at new Walmart location in Borger

Members of the Borger Chamber of Commerce and representatives from Walmart were on scene Monday for a ribbon cutting and ground-breaking ceremony at the future site of Walmart’s new location in Borger.

As construction begins on the project, the plan is for the long awaited SuperCenter facility to open on October 15 of this year.
