Borger PD arrest made during traffic stop

The Borger Police Department made an arrest during a routine traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon.
On Tuesday, June 12, 2011, at approximately 11:30 a.m. officers from the department conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of Monroe Street. After conducting the stop, officers identified the driver of the vehicle as Randi Lee Smith, 54, of Borger.

Volunteers needed for HCUW Day of Caring

The Hutchinson County United Way has a full slate of projects for its upcoming Day of Caring. Now all it needs is volunteers to make those projects happen.
This year’s event is set for Sept. 17, 2011. Teri Hogue of the HCUW said the organization has had a great response and is now looking for volunteers to work these requests.
“Volunteers are needed and will be put into teams to work together for this one day,” she said.

Treasure Hunters coming to Borger

The Treasure Hunters will yet again make an appearance in Borger.
The Treasure Hunters Road show is based in Springfield, Illinois, and will be bringing its five-day road show to Borger, starting Tuesday July 26, 2011 at the AmericInn Lodge and Suites of Borger located on 900 E. 3rd St.
They will be there from 9am to 6pm Tuesday through Friday, and 9am to 4pm on Saturday.
During this free event, the Treasure Hunters are expecting to see over 1,200 residents bringing in their rare and unusual collectibles.

Water coming out of Lake Meredith to increase

The amount of water being pumped out of Lake Meredith this summer is going to see an increase.
On Monday, the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority’s board of directors took a unanimous vote to increase the amount of water being pumped out of the lake. The total amount will increase from 5,000 to 6,300 acre-feet. An acre-foot of water amounts to over 325,000 gallons.

27 days and counting of 100°+ temperatures

As of Thursday, July 21, 2011, Hutchinson County has had a total of 27 days that temperatures have exceeded 100 degrees.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards said there have been technical difficulties with the emergency communication because of the heat. Officials have to work extra hard in making sure everything technical is properly cooled down.

H2C, Inc. makes donation to DMA for school supply drive

Hutchinson County Cares (H2C, Inc.), a local family and children’s charity, donated $1,000 to the Downtown Merchants Association for its upcoming school supply drive on Aug. 11. Presenting the check for Hutchinson County Cares (H2C, Inc.) is Jim Bridwell, Nita Crabtree, and Jerri Aylor. Accepting the check is Mike Scales, Amy Fernandez, Darla Brown, Charlene Flanagan, and Brenda Adams.

Summer Celebration set to be held tomorrow in Fritch

The Fritch Summer Celebration is set for tomorrow!
KFDA News Channel 10, the local CBS affiliate, has selected Fritch as one of its stops on its “Summer Celebration Tour.” The city will be featured on Friday, July 22, the last day of its weeklong tour of area towns.
The event will take place on Robey Street between the Lake Meredith Aquatic and Wildlife Museum and Fritch City Hall. Robey will be closed to traffic and booths will be placed up and down the block.
There will be local entertainment, giveaways, contests, challenges, and a variety of other events.

Fleming displaying one-of-a-kind vehicles

Those wanting to see some one-of-a-kind antique vehicles need look no further than Main Street in Borger.
Mr. Greg Fleming has been collecting, buying, and selling antique vehicles. Next to Fleming’s Furniture, he has some of these antique vehicles on display.
Fleming has one Ford Tractor and two John Deere tractors, along with a old fire truck out of the Dallas area. He also has an older Coca-Cola truck.

Council approves purchase of motorgrader

The purchase of a motorgrader for the City of Borger Public Works department has been approved.
The council took action on the purchase during its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon.
The City of Borger has been utilizing an old motorgrader that quit working this past year. The council funded the purchase of another grader from current funds.
The motorgrader is used by the street department for alleys, roadways and snow removal, as well as ad hoc construction projects.
