Seliger to hold town hall meeting in Borger

State Senator Kel Seliger is coming to Borger for a town hall meeting next week.
The meeting will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Senator Seliger has traveled throughout the Panhandle, South Plains, and Permian Basin throughout the last two months to discuss the activities of the 82nd Legislative Session with his constituents.
“The town hall meetings are a great way to ensure there is continuing dialogue from the people who live in my district,” he said. “I hold them regularly and use the information exchanged.”

Redd receives positive review from EDC Board

On Tuesday afternoon, the Borger Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors performed their annual review for Borger EDC CEO Dan Redd during the board’s October meeting.
The EDC Board gave Redd a positive report, which extended his contract for another year. Redd has served as the EDC CEO for five years and will enter his sixth.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the EDC Board approved entering a contract with Leading EDG to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Borger area.

New hospital set to open next week

The new Golden Plains Community Hospital is set to open next week!
Dennis Jack, CEO of Golden Plains Community Hospital, spoke to the Borger Rotary Club recently about the progress of the new facility. The moving of items from the old facility to the new facility will be taking place this week, with most of the moving taking place this Thursday and Friday.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, a public open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours will be taking place throughout the hospital during those hours.

FPC accepts $25,000 from United Supermarkets Foundation

On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents approved accepting a $25,000 donation from the United Supermarkets Foundation which was presented to the college back on September 30th.
The gift was the second part of $50,000 United Supermarkets awarded FPC to be used towards the renovation of the Biology Lab that was complete this summer.
United Supermarkets presented its first installment of the donation back in October of 2010.

Various fall, Halloween festivities taking place throughout county

October is full of fun fall events and exciting Halloween festivities throughout the county.
A few family events that will be out in the community for citizens to enjoy include the following:
The Spring Creek School Halloween Carnival is to be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. The cafeteria will serve food from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the games and booths will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come in costume if you like!

Animal ordinance hearing to be set

Before passing an amended animal control ordinance, the City of Borger wants the input of the public.
The Borger City Council will be acting to schedule a public hearing on Nov. 1, 2011, at 7 p.m. to allow public comment on the proposed ordinance.

WT High band receives Division 1 rating, advances to area contest

The West Texas High Marching Band is moving on to area competition! The band received a Division One rating at the UIL Region One Marching Band Contest that took place Saturday at Dick Bivens Stadium in Amarillo. The band will be advancing to the UIL Area Marching Band Contest, scheduled for Oct. 29 at Dick Bivens Stadium.

Borger ISD to hold Red Ribbon Week Oct. 24-28

Borger ISD is encouraging the schools to be drug free.
The week of Oct. 24 – 28, 2011 Borger Schools will have their annual Red Ribbon Week of activities. The theme of the week is “It’s up to me to be drug-free.”
Borger ISD uses Red Ribbon Week to educate the schools and the community about how important it is to be drug-free.
All through the week students are asked to take part in activities. Monday is “I’m a ‘Jean-ius’-I am Drug- Free Day.” Everyone is asked to wear jeans. Tuesday is the day to join the war against drugs, and students are asked to wear camouflage.

Lady Plainsmen hosting “Dig for a Cure” Oct. 19

On Wednesday, October 19th, Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen fans are encouraged to wear pink to support “Dig for a Cure” during the volleyball team’s WJCAC conference match against NMMI at 7:00 p.m. at the BCAC.
All donations and proceeds from the match will go to the “Susan G. Komen Fight against Breast Cancer.”
During the game a drawing will be held for an iPAD 2 being donated Verizon Wireless. Raffle tickets are $3 each or four for $10 and you must be present in order to win.

High School Bands compete in UIL Marching Contest on Saturday

This Saturday, the Borger High School and West Texas High School marching bands will take part in the UIL Region One Marching Contest at Dick Bivins Stadium in Amarillo.
The West Texas High Marching Band will compete in the marching contest first, taking the field at 2:00 p.m.
The 55-member Comanche Band will perform a show which features the music of Michael Jackson, including “Thriller,” “I'll Be There,” and “Billie Jean.”

The Borger Bullodogs boys basketball team recently took second at the Vernon tournament. See...

The Borger Lady Bulldogs dropped their game on the road Tuesday night to Dumas, 58-42. See results...
