Longtime Hutchinson County Tax Assessor Collector Mary Lou Henderson has made the announcement that she will not seek reelection in the upcoming 2012 election.
Henderson has been serving in the position since 1985. She began working for Hutchinson County in 1958, starting on a part-time basis. She then worked in the Borger office in 1961, where she remained until taking a position at Phillips in 1976.
She ran for the office of Tax Assessor Collector in 1984 and began work the following year. She will continue serving as Tax Assessor Collector through December of 2012.
The Borger ISD board of trustees accepted a resignation from a longtime board member and is setting procedures in place for a replacement.
During its regular meeting Thursday evening, the board voted to accept, with regret, the resignation of Johnny Rusten, who has served on the board since 1998, most recently as president. Rusten submitted his resignation citing work, family, and church priorities.
Robert Bradley, who was elected the new president of the board, said Rustenâ€™s presence would be missed.
The Borger Downtown Merchants will be having sales, refreshments, and Santa during its upcoming Christmas open house.
The open house is set to take place from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 on Main Street. In addition to sales at stores and Christmas goodies, Santa Claus will be making his arrival at 2 p.m.

Faith Christian Fellowship at 415 Gardner Street will â€śmeet people at their point of need.â€ť FCF will host a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 from 12 p.m to 4 p.m. They are serving a traditional thanksgiving meal to anyone who wishes to join. Crime Stoppers is seeking information from the public pertaining to a recent burglary in Borger.
On Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, Borger Police Officers responded to #15 Adobe Trail in reference to a burglary of a habitation.
Sometime during the night of Saturday, Oct. 29, or the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 30, the suspect or suspects entered the residence and took a firearm, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department.
The stolen firearm is described as a Blue Rossi Six Shot Revolver and is valued at $300.
Living Water Ministries is doing its part again this year to put a little blessing into this yearâ€™s holidays for the less fortunate. The organization will be helping people in Hutchinson County with Bags of Blessings (holiday food) during the upcoming holiday season.
Those who would like to be a part of providing the â€śBags of Blessingsâ€ť can purchase the following complete list and return it in a paper grocery bag to Living Water at 103 West Fourth Street. The Bags of Blessings are needed by Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, and the ministryâ€™s hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday
Saturday is the day for all local veterans to come out and be honored at the Sixth Annual Veteranâ€™s Appreciation Dinner at the Elks Lodge.
For all those war heroes put their lives on the line to protect the way citizens live, a special appreciation dinner will be held in their honor. Everything will be hosted by the Borger Elks, American Legion, Veteranâ€™s of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans Association, and their Auxiliaries.
This dinner is set for Saturday, November 12, 2011 in the Borger Elks on 200 Opal.

A Borger man was arrested by the Borger Police Department on indecency charges.
On Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, Donald Ray Grisham, a white man 50 years of age, of Borger, was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Borger Police Department, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD.
Grisham was charged with one count on indecency with a child with sexual contact, which is considered a felony of the second degree. He was released on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, after posting a $50,000 bond.
