Ralls Appliance joining with other entities to donate new refrigerators

Ralls Appliance, GE Whirlpool, United Supermarkets and the Salvation Army will donate new refrigerators stocked full of groceries to the less fortunate families this year.
Ralls Appliance offered this to many families last year for the holidays.
“We understand the value of a helping hand. With over 40 years in business, we’ve faced some tough times ourselves,” stated Jack Klaus, owner of Ralls Appliance.

PETA asked the tiny Texas Panhandle town of Turkey on Monday to change its name to Tofurky for Thanksgiving.
PETA made its pitch to “promote compassion,” it said in its letter, offering to provide a “delicious, healthy vegan holiday feast” for the town in exchange for the name change.
The people in the community has made their voices heard by saying "thanks but no thanks."
But what do you think? Should the town of Turkey accept PETA's offer?

Borger woman arrested for credit card abuse, forgery

A Borger woman was arrested last Monday for credit card abuse and forgery.
On Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, Lori Lynn Baker, 29, of Borger, was arrested by the Borger Police Department on 14 counts of credit card abuse and one count of forgery of a financial instrument in reference to a lengthy multi-jurisdictional investigation, Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD said.
The investigations remain ongoing and involve multiple agencies including the BPD, Amarillo Police Department, Parmer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Weatherford Police Department.

Henderson announces decision on upcoming election

Longtime Hutchinson County Tax Assessor Collector Mary Lou Henderson has made the announcement that she will not seek reelection in the upcoming 2012 election.
Henderson has been serving in the position since 1985. She began working for Hutchinson County in 1958, starting on a part-time basis. She then worked in the Borger office in 1961, where she remained until taking a position at Phillips in 1976.
She ran for the office of Tax Assessor Collector in 1984 and began work the following year. She will continue serving as Tax Assessor Collector through December of 2012.

BISD board plans to fill vacancy

The Borger ISD board of trustees accepted a resignation from a longtime board member and is setting procedures in place for a replacement.
During its regular meeting Thursday evening, the board voted to accept, with regret, the resignation of Johnny Rusten, who has served on the board since 1998, most recently as president. Rusten submitted his resignation citing work, family, and church priorities.
Robert Bradley, who was elected the new president of the board, said Rusten’s presence would be missed.

Sales, refreshments, and Santa Claus!

The Borger Downtown Merchants will be having sales, refreshments, and Santa during its upcoming Christmas open house.
The open house is set to take place from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 on Main Street. In addition to sales at stores and Christmas goodies, Santa Claus will be making his arrival at 2 p.m.
Stores participating in this year’s open house are as follows:

Faith Christian Fellowship hosts a Thanksgiving dinner.

Faith Christian Fellowship at 415 Gardner Street will “meet people at their point of need.” FCF will host a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 from 12 p.m to 4 p.m. They are serving a traditional thanksgiving meal to anyone who wishes to join. If you are alone this holiday, if you cannot cook a meal, or just don't want to, please join us and enjoy a great meal and wonderful fellowship. Crime Stoppers seeking help in solving burglary

Crime Stoppers is seeking information from the public pertaining to a recent burglary in Borger.
On Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, Borger Police Officers responded to #15 Adobe Trail in reference to a burglary of a habitation.
Sometime during the night of Saturday, Oct. 29, or the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 30, the suspect or suspects entered the residence and took a firearm, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department.
The stolen firearm is described as a Blue Rossi Six Shot Revolver and is valued at $300.
