The Stinnett City Council took care of various items of business during its regular meeting Monday evening.
The council discussed and approved the Street improvement (seal-coating) for 17 and a half blocks on Ranch and Larriet and other areas.
In terms of bids, the council decided to accept GW James of Pampa’s bid of $18,412.00 for the project that was presented by Branch Engineers .
The City of Stinnett also approved the hiring of Drennan Rogers for the Stinnett Police Department and new CDC Member Kendra Jones.

The burn ban in Hutchinson County will continue.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Hutchinson County Commissioners Court voted to extend the burn ban for another 90 days.
County Fire Marshal Danny Richards told the court, “We are extremely vulnerable.” This item was unanimously agreed upon and was put into effect yesterday.
A burn ban was initially approved by the court in January of this year.
The ban prohibits the burning of trash and any type of burning in open pits. It will not affect farmers who do agricultural burning, but does restrict other types of outdoor burning.

With the Hutchinson County Relay For Life quickly approaching, local cancer survivors are encouraged to register for this year’s event.
Anyone in Hutchinson County who currently has or has ever been diagnosed with any type of cancer is urged to register with the Relay for Life of Hutchinson County survivor committee by Friday, May 13, 2011.

Local officials are doing their part to ensure that local youngsters are properly buckled into their car seats.
The Borger Fire Department will be holding a “Car Seat Checkup” from 1:30pm-4pm on April 19, 2011.
Mike Barter of the Borger EMS said, “This will help people choose a car seat that is required by new laws for children.”
It will also help parents or anyone who drives with a child in the car have a better understanding of how to keep the child safe along with all the do’s and don’ts.

When winds come, they are certain to wreak havoc. This was certainly the case in Hutchinson County Sunday afternoon.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards said some of the wind gusts that blew across the county yesterday were around 65 miles per hour, and there were reports of some gusts being even higher than that. He said the winds appeared to be the southern portion of a major tornado outbreak.

The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office has the following to report for April 03-09, 2011:
1) A Deputy transported a fugitive from Altus, OK to the Hutchinson County Jail on local charges.
2) Deputies assisted the Carson County Sheriff’s Office with a disturbance on the South end of Deahl Road, Arroyo Verde Addition.
3) Deputies were called to the area of Fritch Drive and Meredith Way, Lake Meredith Harbor Addition, on a report of suspicious activity.
4) Deputies responded to FM 2277 approximately 2 miles South of Highway 207 on a report of suspicious activity.

It looks like the tradition is continuing as strong as ever for St. John’s Catholic Church! The church held its 56th annual spaghetti dinner Sunday afternoon despite the high winds outside. In addition to a large crowd enjoying the dinner in the church’s gym, numerous citizens also took advantage of the take-outs that were available. Serving took place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Cities of Fritch, Sanford, and Stinnett saw an increase in their sales tax allocations for the month of April 2011, while Borger saw a decrease.
On Friday, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs sent April sales tax allocations of $279.4 million to Texas cities, up 5.2 percent compared to April 2010. Calendar year-to-date, city sales tax allocations are running 6.7 percent higher than last year. Texas counties will receive sales tax payments of $26.6 million, up 11.1 percent compared to one year ago. Calendar year-to-date, county sales tax allocations are 13.2 percent higher than last year.

Last weekend, the Elks Lodge held its Annual Inaugural Ball to honor citizens in the community.
The Elks hold this every year in April to exchange their old officers for the new and to award citizens who make a difference.
This year’s Citizen of the Year was Bill Riddle of Riddle’s Welding off of Florida St.
The lodge also awarded Bob Tiffany the Elk of the Year award. Terrye Hooks was named the Officer of the year. The Elks also announced that Steve Slaybaugh is the new Exalted Ruler.
