The Borger Fire Department is doing its part to help the family of a firefighter who recently passed away after suffering extensive injuries in the line of duty.

Throughout the years, there have been various cases of kidnapped children, such as Adam Walsh, Polly Klaas, Jonathan Foster, and others. When such a crime occurs, law enforcement needs as much information as possible, such as photos, descriptions, fingerprints, and DNA, if possible.
According to James Qualls of the Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office, it is the desire of his agency and other law enforcement that such a crime does not happen again.
“However, we must come to grips [with the facts that] this type of crime does occur,” he said.

There is a local citizen who truly values the work of the MS Walk now more than ever.
Sandra Washer was diagnosed with MS back in 1992, and every year since the MS Walk started in 1994, she has played a significant part in the walk each year.
She said there was a man named Byron Nesbitt who started the walk in Borger because he wanted to do something for a organization that did good, that actually helped somebody, and she worked right along with him.

A suspicious death in the Keeler Heights area that is being investigated by the Borger Police Department and the Texas Rangers has now been classified as a homicide.
On Thursday, April 21, 2011, at approximately 11:14 a.m., officers from the Borger Police Department were dispatched to 120 Garrett Street in reference to an unattended death.

(UPDATE: According to information received from the Borger Police Department, this has been ruled a homicide. More details will be available later this evening.)
Local and state officials are currently investigating a suspicious death in the Keeler Heights area.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department, yesterday morning before noon, officers responded to Garrett Street in reference to a death.
Once they got over there and began to investigate, the Texas Rangers were called to assist in the investigation.

It is a difficult time for school districts.
This was the sentiment shared by two local superintendents, Jim McClellan of Sanford-Fritch ISD and Chance Welch of Borger ISD. The two men shared about their backgrounds, along with the struggles their districts are facing, during a gathering of the Hutchinson County Retired School Personnel Association meeting Thursday.

When it comes to Walk MS, there is a local citizen whose heart is truly passionate about the cause.
Don MacAhan of Borger was the top fundraiser for the 2010 Walk MS Fundraiser for the panhandle area, collecting well over $6,000 just by himself.
He made the ConocoPhillips team the areas top fundraising team just by “asking everybody I run in to,” he said. Last year’s Borger MS Walk raised over $16,000.

Officials are currently investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a three-month-old in Fritch.
The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office was contacted this morning for information on the investigation of what caused the death.
Deputies from the office responded to a call at a home in the Sanford Estates housing development on Tuesday night around 8:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the infant had died.
According to reports from Department of Public Safety spokesman Gabriel Medrano, preliminary autopsy results determine the child died from asphyxiation.

Sgt. Joseph A. Jett truly received a hero’s welcome Wednesday afternoon from students at West Texas Elementary School in Stinnett. Holding a sign made in his honor is Sgt. Jett’s niece, six-year-old Alyssa Beagle. Sgt. Jett and his wife Liz have a three-year-old daughter Chloe, who holds on to her dad tightly. He has come home after service in Afghanistan.

The cases in the report are as follows:
•Skylar Denham – appeal failure to attend school,
final conviction (fine only)
•Amanda Michelle Fought, theft of property >=$20<$500 by check, case dismissed (restitution made)
•Katherine Nanette Landrum, disorderly conduct Class C, order suspending sentence
•Phillip Lee Mitchell, driving while intoxicated, county jail
•Amber Dawn Reeves, driving while intoxicated (2nd), order revoking probation
