On Wednesday morning, LINN Energy presented Frank Phillips College with a $35,000 donation to be used to purchase equipment for the P&E and I&E technology program during the grand opening of LINN Energyâ€™s new regional office in Borger.
FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks, FPC Dean of Career and Technology Jack Stanley, LINN Energy Senior VP/Chief Operating Officer Arden Walker, and other representatives from LINN Energy were hand to take part in the presentation of the donation check from LINN Energy to the Frank Phillips College.
A federal court decision has spurred Xcel Energy to rethink its initial decision to raise gas rates for its residential customer base.
The decision, which pertains to the delay of a costly new environmental regulation, spurred the decision by Xcel.
The update, if it had gone into effect, would have added $6.30 or seven percent, to a typical winter residential bill of 1,000 kilowatt-hours in Texas. Customers in New Mexico eventually would have seen higher fuel costs because customers in both states share the same power generation system.
The Hutchinson County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet on January 12, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Frank Phillips College cafeteria.
There will be a financial report given by Carie Richards and and other reports such as Public Education Committee-Jerry Langwell,. Compliance Committee-Paton Willis, Public Warning Systems Committee-Danny Richards, and raining/Drill Committee-Bob Watson.
The committee will also discuss Unfinished Business and new business items.
BHS counselors & Frank Phillips College will be hosting Financial Aid Night on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, 6:00-8:00 P.M. IN THE BHS Media Center. Parents of juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend. Information regarding scholarships, financial aid, and college admission processes will be some of the many topics addressed.
LINN Energy is preparing to celebrate the grand opening of its new regional office in Borger.
The company will be hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the office. LINN Energy will also be presenting Dr. Jud Hicks, President of Frank Phillips College, with its donation to fund equipment for the P&E and I&E technology program. The new facility is located at 1201 Fairlanes Boulevard, and the public is invited to attend.
Hutchinson County will remain free of a burn ban.
On the Hutchinson County Commissioners Court met for a regular meeting at the Hutchinson County Courthouse to discuss the ban.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards spoke to the commissioners, recommending â€śthat we hold what we have. To continue to not have the burn ban,â€ť he said.
The burn ban was lifted on Nov. 21, 2011 and will continue to stay that way, after the commissioners took no action on the item.
Hutchinson County Republican Women would like to Welcome the Texas Republican Party Treasurer Tom Mechler to our scheduled meeting on January 12 at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held at Dakeâ€™s Restaurant in Borger.

Longtime Borger High School Coach E.J. â€śJeep Webb will be part of this yearâ€™s three-person induction class into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, February 12th at 2:00 p.m. in Amarillo Collegeâ€™s Ordway Auditorium.
Joining Webb in this yearâ€™s induction class are former Nazareth and West Texas A&M womenâ€™s basketball player Leona (Gerber) Wilhelm and former Dumas Head Football Coach, the late Bill Spann.
Webb started his time in Borger in 1958 as an assistant coach before moving to Canyon in 1960.
A blood drive is set to take place in Borger in about two weeks.
The Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be holding a drive at the Union Hall, 111 East Coolidge on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
All eligible donors who present to donate will receive a M*A*S*H* t-shirt in appreciation for giving the gift of life.
A photo ID or donor card is required to donate, and donors must be at least 17 years of age to be eligible to give blood.
Suzanne Talley of CMBC said that all blood types are currently needed.
The Hutchinson County Hospital District Board of Directors will be holding discussion about its upcoming election at its upcoming meeting.
The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, in the executive board room of Golden Plains Community Hospital.
Both Dr. Jock Lee, DVM, and Joe Mihm are elected members of the board whose terms will come up this spring. Dr. Lee is currently serving as chairman of the board.
John Edgington, one of the appointed members of the board, is also seeing his position expire as well. All three are eligible for reelection or reappointment to the board.
