Bond set in Fernandez case

Wednesday afternoon, bond was set for Francisco "Frank" Fernandez, and Jose Fernandez, Jr., at $50,000 each during arraignment hearing in Amarillo.
Aaron Fernandez had his bond set at $25,000.
All three have been indicted on drug trafficking charges and must take part in the home confinement program and wear an electronic ankle monitoring device.
In addition, travel for the men is restricted, they cannot be around firearms, alcohol or narcotics and they are subject to medical testing.

Pilot walks away from Tuesday evening crash

On Tuesday evening, a Bellanca aircraft made a crash landing in an open field in the Borger area, one mile south of Highway 136.
According to DPS reports on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m., a Bellanca aircraft, piloted by James Randall Dyson, 62, of Borger, was flying on a low gas tank for maintenance reasons and was heading back to the Hutchinson County Airport in Borger.
While in flight, Dyson tried to switch gas tanks but due to equipment failure was unable to do so causing Dyson to bring the aircraft down.

Borger man killed in Wednesday morning wreck

November 2, 2011

Early Wednesday morning a Borger man was killed in a wreck one mile south of Stinnett on Highway 136.
According to the DPS report, Gentry Kent Trahern, 53, was traveling northbound on Highway 136 when at approximately 6:05 a.m. his Honda Accord struck a horse that had entered the road from the east.
After the Accord hit the horse, the vehicle slide into the southbound lane where a Toyota Tundra struck the Accord on the passenger side.
The Tundra was driven by Emit Lee Schmidt, 52, of Morse.
The Justice of the Peace pronounced Trahern dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy on the body.

Bail has been set in the Amy Fernandez case.
Tuesday evening in the United States District Court Room at 5:40 P.M Amy Fernandez and her represented lawyer Mr. Johnson appeared in front of a judge.
Fernandez has been charged for the purpose of evading the reporting requirements and the regulations issued thereunder, structure, attempt to structure, and attempted to assist in structuring currency transactions with one or more domestic financial institutions by purchasing 37 cashier's checks with United States currency in the amounts of $3,000 or less.

Elementary Schools holding special Veteran's Day Assembly

On Friday morning, November 11th, the Crockett and Gateway Elementary schools will be honoring our country's veterans with a special program in the Gateway/Crockett cafeteria starting at 9:30 a.m.
The special program will be performed by the students of both elementary schools and the local Boy Scouts.
All veterans and their families are invited to attend.
If you are a veteran and plan on attending, you are asked to arrive at the cafeteria by 9:00 a.m. for a special seat during the program.

City to hold animal ordinance hearing tonight

The City of Borger will be holding a public hearing on its proposed amended animal control ordinance this evening.
The hearing will be held in conjunction with the council’s regular meeting, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said the hearing is being held in order to give the public ample time to comment on the ordinance.

Local residents encouraged to “paint Borger pink”

Local residents are encouraged to paint Borger pink as a special national tour rolls into town tomorrow.
The National Pink Heals Tour is coming to Borger. Locals are encouraged to come see the pink emergency equipment, sign the truck, and welcome the tour members to town as they raise cancer awareness and provide support for cancer victims.
The event will take place from 7:45-9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, in the Hastings parking lot. Food, fun, t-shirts, and a balloon release are scheduled as part of the festivities.
