The City of Stinnett is preparing for its annual cleanup.
The cleanup was discussed at the city council meeting, held Monday evening at Stinnett City Hall.
The annual cleanup for Stinnett will be held June 6 thru June 18, 2011. This year’s cleanup will be different from past years. There will be disposal bins at the recycling center and designated areas to drop off your items.

With school just a few weeks from being out, the final touches are being put on the City of Borger’s Park Recreation Program for the summer.
Annadon Keys, Johnson Park Youth Center Supervisor, said the program is free and reaches out to children who are in first through seventh grades.
“Our goal is that each child receives the same attention, rewards, and fun equally, regardless of financial status,” she said. “It is very important for us to provide an exciting and fun-filled summer to as many children as possible.”

Borger and Hutchinson County’s emergency management coordinator has been hard at work on his higher education in order to continue keeping citizens safe.
Danny Richards graduated with a Master’s of Science Degree in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University in Alabama on April 29, 2011.
He said Jacksonville State University offers one of the best curriculums for emergency managers wishing to further their professional studies.
“The program requires an in-depth study of government structure, emergency response, financial recovery, and hazard mitigation,” Richards said.

Les Sharp is running for a seat on the Borger ISD Board of Trustees.
Sharp has lived in Borger for 22 years. He said he was welcomed by the people of Borger as a young science teacher straight out of school at Texas Tech who made him feel at home.
“I met a beautiful girl (Melanie Pepper) whom I was privileged to marry and we have been blessed with four terrific children,” he said. “Borger is a great community and a wonderful place to raise a family.”

The Borger Police Department is currently investigating a criminal mischief incident involving a local church.
The criminal mischief took place at New Jerusalem Church, located at 1016 Brain Street. According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD, sometime between April 29 and 30, 2011, several windows were broken on the church.

The Borger City Council has granted an additional extension of time to one local resident to allow her to continue refurbishing two different properties.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the council approved an order to further modify the recommendation of the Building Standards Commission to require Penny Hodges to obtain a remodel permit for structures located at 309 South Hedgecoke and 219-221 W. Jefferson, within a 10-day period, and gave her an additional 90 days to complete repairs.

The International Coin Collectors Association will be in Borger from May 9-14 from 9am till 6pm and 9am till 4pm on Saturday at the AmericInn Lodge & Suites of Borger, 900 E. 3rd.
They will be coming to Borger in the search of the “most rare coins in world”.
The collectors are hoping to see items such as coins and paper currency issued prior to 1965 and gold items including class rings, mismatched earrings, broken necklaces, gold coins and bullion.

A Borger High School teacher received special honors during the Coffee Memorial Blood Center Annual Donor Recognition Luncheon in Amarillo Tuesday afternoon.
Mary Lou Lozier was honored with CMBC’s Lifetime of Service Award. She and several of her student council members from BHS were in attendance at the luncheon.
Lozier became involved with CMBC when she volunteered to be the blood drive coordinator for the BHS blood drives.
Frank Phillips College welcomes Mr. Kerry Symons as the 2011 Commencement Speaker as part of the Commencement ceremony that will take place Friday evening, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the BCAC.
Mr. Symons, a Perryton native and notable Texas Panhandle businessman, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business and Economics from West Texas State University (now West Texas A & M University).

Hutchinson County Sheriff's office called with an update Thursday morning in regards to the death of three-month-old, Dustin Athey in Fritch.
Deputies from the office responded to a call at a home in the Sanford Estates housing development on Tuesday night April 19 around 8:20 p.m.
