BNH looking for Hutchinson County Heroes

Are you a part of the military that has recently returned home from the conflict in Iraq? We want to hear your story.
The Borger News-Herald will be working on a special section featuring those who served in this conflict from the Hutchinson County area. We would love to either sit down and interview you, or receive entries via email if preferred.

Deadline for election filing moved to Feb. 1 to to

Those wanting to run for county positions still have a chance.
According to Republican Chairman Mary Kay Phelan, the previous deadline for entries on December 12, 2011 has been moved to February 1, 2012.
Running for Hutchinson County Sheriff is Mickey Blackmon, Don Johnson, and James Qualls. Carrie Kimmel has filed to run for Tax Assessor/ Collector, Mike Milner for County Attorney, Larry Coffman for Commissioner- Precinct One. And S.T. “Red” Isbell, Jr. and Nathan Sargent for Commissioner- Precinct Three.

City council to meet Tuesday

December 30, 2011

The Borger City Council is set to meet this Tuesday.
The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
The council will act on a request from CVS Pharmacy for a variance to the distance requirements of an off-premise alcoholic beverage sales permit for beer and wine.
In other business, the council will act on expenditures for the last half of December 2011, and the minutes of the regular meeting of Dec. 20, 2011.

Salazar enters guilty plea

Another person involved in the recent drug bust surrounding the Fernandez family has entered a guilty plea.
According to court records, Thomas Salazar pleaded guilty to one count of cocaine possession with intent to distribute. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He is charged with knowingly and intentionally possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and/or five kilograms or more of cocaine in the Randall, Potter, and Hutchinson County areas.

CRMWA, Mesa finalize water deal

AMARILLO-On Thursday morning, representatives from CRMWA, Mesa Water, and civic leaders from the Texas Panhandle were in attendance for the closing of the $103 million water purchase agreement at the Happy State Bank Building in Amarillo.
Taking part in the official signing were T.Boone Pickens and Robert Stillwell of Mesa Water, CRMWA General Manager Kent Satterwhite, and CRMWA Board President Norman Wright.
