Alcohol ordinance introduced

The City of Borger has introduced changes to its alcoholic beverage laws.
During its regular meeting last Tuesday, the Borger City Council introduced an ordinance amending the City of Borger Code of Ordinance, Article 4.02, Alcoholic Beverages.
City Manager Eddie Edwards said CVS is in the process of constructing a new pharmacy at the intersection of Third and Cedar. It regularly sells beer and wine as part of its in-store inventory.

James Qualls announces candidacy for county sheriff

James Qualls has announced his candidacy for Hutchinson County Sheriff.
Qualls was born in Duncan, Okla., in 1948. He is happily married to Kellie (Snider). Between them they have eight children, 23 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They attend Celebration Family Church in Fritch.
He grew up in California, and graduated high school in Riverside, Calif., in 1966. Over the years, he continued his education in a slow pace, taking classes in community colleges as well as continuing education in law enforcement.

United Way celebrates successful campaign

The Hutchinson County United Way celebrated another successful campaign year Thursday.
During the victory luncheon at Graced Land East, HCUW Executive Director Julie Winters announced that this year’s campaign brought in $625,540.17, exceeding the original goal of $615,000.
Winters said this year’s campaign marks her eighth with the organization. She said it is the work of citizens that makes such campaigns a success.
“United Way is the people of our community,” she said. “It’s people like you who make it work.”
Various awards were given out during the luncheon festivities.

Blood drive scheduled for Dec. 12

December is the month of giving. Giving blood can be just the greatest gift to give to someone who needs it and that gratification of knowing you saved a life for Christmas.
Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be holding a blood drive will be in Fritch on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at First Southern Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall from 2:30 till 6:30 p.m.

Red Hat Mamas to have Christmas dinner on Dec. 15 at Opportunities Center

The Red Hat Mamas will have their Christmas dinner on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at the Borger Opportunities Center, 930 Illinois.
The group will meet at the center at 11 a.m. and dinner will be served a little after 11:30 a.m.
The cost of the meal is $4 for senior citizens and $5 for those under the age of 50.
Red Hat Mamas is a club that is open to all women ages 50 or more.
Please make reservations by calling Dorothy Cates at 273-3329 by the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 13.

HCHM hosting annual Christmas exhibit

Hutchinson County Museum’s Annual Christmas Exhibit is feature one sixth scale military action figures in period uniforms with weapons, and other scale models from the collection of Greg Thompson on display from from now through Dec. 28, 2011.
“I enjoy watching children as they view the collection with wide eyes and exclamations of golly and wow. I want kids to know that history is more fun than Facebook,” says Greg.

Borger Creative Arts Club extends bazaar into this weekend

Borger Creative Arts Club is extending its bazaar.
Falling ceilings, rain, and snow caused the bazaar to start very slow.
Now the plan is to have an extra day.
We will be here to show you the way.
Saturday, Dec. 10, the hours are 9 to 5, celebrating cheerfully, keeping Christmas alive.

Nursing home replat approved

December 8, 2011

A replat of property for the construction of a nursing home in Borger has received official city approval.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council approved the replat of Blocks 2 & 3, North Park Addition, containing 10.76 acres, to be known as Borger Nursing Facility Subdivision, 900 College Avenue. The request for the replat was made by P&B Senior Living Group, LLC, of Fort Smith, Ark.
Kenneth Petr, Director of Planning and Zoning for the City of Borger, said the nursing home will be a 120-bed facility.
