Coker yet to issue statement on dismissal

The recently dismissed Fritch Chief of Police has yet to issue a statement pertaining to his Monday dismissal.
Kirk Coker, who was dismissed from the position on Monday, told the Borger News-Herald that he has to consult with his attorney before making any type of statement.
He promised to keep the BNH updated with any possible news.
Monte Leggett, Chief Administrator for the Fritch Police Department, confirmed on Monday afternoon that Coker was no longer with the Fritch Police Department.

Assistance needed in copper theft cases

Crime Stoppers and the Borger Police Department are seeking assistance in reference to copper wire thefts that occurred inside the City of Borger.
On Monday, March 19, 2012, officers from Borger PD responded to a burglary in the 300 block of East Tenth Street.
During this burglary, the suspect (s) took several types of copper wiring from the location. The suspect (s) also caused damage to the location while taking the copper wiring.

County sets Republican convention

The Hutchinson County Republican Party has announced its plan for a 2012 county/district convention.
Mary Kay Phelan, who is the county chairman, announced that this convention will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Faith Christian Fellowship Church, 415 East Gardner.

Coker dismissed as Fritch Police Chief

On Monday morning, Kirk Coker was dismissed as the Chief of Police for the City of Fritch.
Monte Leggett, Chief Administrator for the Fritch Police Department, confirmed on Monday afternoon that Coker was no longer with the Fritch Police Department.
As to the reasons behind Coker’s dismissal, Leggett said he was not able to comment on personnel issues but stated “the rest of the officers on the Fritch Police Department are committed to serving the city of Fritch now and going forward in the future.”

Library book sale just around the corner

The Friends of the Library book sale is just around the corner! On April 19-21, books of all kinds and jigsaw puzzles will be available at the Borger library for low prices.
Hours for the sale are 2-7 p.m. Thursday, April 19; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 20; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21. Prices are 50 cents for adult hardbacks, 25 cents for children’s hardbacks, and all paperbacks will be two for 25 cents. In addition, puzzles are 50 cents and gift books are only 25 cents each.

Animal control ordinance approved

An amended animal control ordinance for the City of Borger has been approved.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council approved the ordinance on final reading, along with a resolution establishing a schedule of fees, costs, charges, and expenses related to the ordinance.

It’s time to bash the trash!

Next week is the time for citizens to bash their trash!
The City of Borger will be holding its upcoming trash bash April 9-14, 2012. It is sponsoring this free week for county residents to bring their trash to the transfer station.
Kathie Harber, who is with the City of Borger, said tire disposal will also be an available service for locals during Trash Bash Week.
“Tire disposal for residential customers will not have a limit during this week,” she said.

Council approves alley paving project

The Borger City Council has approved an alley paving project in the University Heights area.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the council approved the establishment of an escrow account for the alley paving of Lots 1-18, Block 6, University Heights.
Kenneth Petr, Director of Planning and Zoning for the City of Borger, said Starla Buchanan has requested the establishment of this account for the property owners in this area for the project.
