The Sanford-Fritch ISD Board of Trustees has called a special meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2012 at 7 p.m. in the SFISD Administration Building Board Room. Trustees will consider or approve the â€śCool Schoolsâ€ť Grant construction contract with Trane Company. This grant helps public schools replace old, inefficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Superintendent Jim McClellan, stated the grant gave the district about $450,000 to replace HVAC systems for all three campuses in the district, excluding the gyms and Administration offices.
A Borger man suspected of vehicle theft is being sought out by the Borger Police Department.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD said the department is actively searching for an individual in connection with several stolen vehicles in the Texas Panhandle.
The department is looking for James Dean Lee, 31, of Borger.
Lee also currently has an active Pardon and Parole Warrant for an original charge of possession of a controlled substance.
The Borger Fire Department was on scene of a fire Thursday morning.
BFD responded to a call made from the owner of a home located in the 300 block of East First St.
The call came in at 8:06 a.m.
When firefighters went to the scene they had the fire distinguished within 20 minutes.
Fire Marshal Jerry Langwell stated the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
Langwell also stated the fire caused around $7,000 worth of damage to the structure. There were no injuries.
The Rotary Club will be welcoming writer and photographer Rick Vanderpool as its special guest speaker next Tuesday at noon.
Vanderpool has marketed and sold his creative works for close to 40 years. He is a 1975 graduate of the University of Georgiaâ€™s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications. He worked for a year as a staff photographer for Callaway Gardens and then opened an art studio in Athens, Ga, where he worked mostly with corporate interior designers, designing and producing custom wall art programs.
Taylor Food Marts in areas such as West Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico have been acquired by a company based in the Temple area.
On January 9, 2012, Fikes Wholesale Inc., parent company of the 194 CEFCO Convenience Stores, announced it has successfully gained the retail interests of 63 Taylor Food Mart Stores from Taylor Petroleum.
James Fikes, President and CEO of Fikes Wholesale Inc. stated, â€śThis agreement truly represents a win-win for all parties involved and we look forward to serving our customers in these new market areas with immediate plans to resupply depleted inventories.â€ť
The abatement of the old Golden Plains Community Hospital building is continuing to progress.
Dennis Jack, CEO of GPCH, shared a report on the progress at the meeting of the Hutchinson County Hospital District Board of Directors Monday evening. He reported the abatement is around 85 percent complete.
On Wednesday morning, LINN Energy presented Frank Phillips College with a $35,000 donation to be used to purchase equipment for the P&E and I&E technology program during the grand opening of LINN Energyâ€™s new regional office in Borger.
FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks, FPC Dean of Career and Technology Jack Stanley, LINN Energy Senior VP/Chief Operating Officer Arden Walker, and other representatives from LINN Energy were hand to take part in the presentation of the donation check from LINN Energy to the Frank Phillips College.
A federal court decision has spurred Xcel Energy to rethink its initial decision to raise gas rates for its residential customer base.
The decision, which pertains to the delay of a costly new environmental regulation, spurred the decision by Xcel.
The update, if it had gone into effect, would have added $6.30 or seven percent, to a typical winter residential bill of 1,000 kilowatt-hours in Texas. Customers in New Mexico eventually would have seen higher fuel costs because customers in both states share the same power generation system.
The Hutchinson County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet on January 12, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Frank Phillips College cafeteria.
There will be a financial report given by Carie Richards and and other reports such as Public Education Committee-Jerry Langwell,. Compliance Committee-Paton Willis, Public Warning Systems Committee-Danny Richards, and raining/Drill Committee-Bob Watson.
The committee will also discuss Unfinished Business and new business items.
BHS counselors & Frank Phillips College will be hosting Financial Aid Night on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, 6:00-8:00 P.M. IN THE BHS Media Center. Parents of juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend. Information regarding scholarships, financial aid, and college admission processes will be some of the many topics addressed.
