Nikkinen is new Sanford secretary

The City of Sanford has a new face in a familiar place. Lesley Nikkinen was welcomed in as the new city secretary this week .
Nikkinen has lived in the Sanford area for about a year and previously lived in Tampa, Florida for 36 years prior to moving to Sanford.
Nikkinen said her new career was a result of a chance meeting with a local resident.
“I met someone through  the Elks Lodge.” she stated.

Stinnett blood drive scheduled for July 14

You may just be a prick of a needle away from saving a life. At least, that is what the residents of Stinnett are hoping as they gear up for their annual blood drive.
Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be in Stinnett next week to as part of its blood drive efforts. CMBC officials are encouraging all Hutchinson County residents give the gift of life, and donate blood. All blood types are needed, CMBC officials said.
The City of Stinnett drive is scheduled for July 14, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 801 Main Street in the Community Center.
 

Annual Casey Aylor Memorial fund-raiser to be held on July 19

Hutchinson County residents should get ready to rev up your engines for a good cause. The 2014 Casey Aylor Memorial Motorcycle Ride is just a few weeks away! The Casey Aylor Memorial Motorcycle Ride is scheduled to be held on Saturday, July 19.

HC3 drive set for July 26

The Hutchinson County Crisis Center is set to host its annual telethon in the coming days. This year’s telethon will help fight against all sorts of physical and mental abuse by auctioning off various items donated from organizations and local citizens.
The telethon is held once a year to raise needed funds for the HC3 program and to help child and adult victims of sexual assault and family violence.
According to HC3 director Norma Luginbyhl, “Hutchinson County is above state average on child abuse.”  

GPCH to get 2 new physicians in August

Golden Plains Community Hospital CEO Kevin Storey announced the Borger hospital would begin offering a new service to local residents in August the hospitalist program. Storey made the announcement at the Hutchinson County Health District board meeting on Monday.
According to Storey,  GPCH will be offering a hospitalist program beginning in August as a way to make its medical care even better.

 When it comes to the world of homemade quilts and blankets, there may not be a better place to go that the Hutchinson County Historical Museum. Well, at least, for the month of July.
The museum unveiled its month-long exhibit of some of the top quilt makers last week when the 2014 Quilt Show opened to the general public.
Through the whole month of July, the Hutchinson County Historical Museum will open the county’s eyes to the quilting world. This year, there are over 30 quilts of all sizes on display in the museum’s north gallery.

The Fourth of July makes everyone smile - it’s grilled food, sparklers, and everything red, white, and blue. For many families, it is the best party of the summer.
This year, the City of Borger wants to make it one of the biggest celebrations of the summer.  

CN&R to receive award today

Caprock Nursing and Rehabilitation employees will be honored today when the company receives its 5-star banner and plaque from state officials.
The members of the public are invited to the ceremony, which will start at 4 p.m. at the CN&R facility at 900 College Ave

Jimmie McCarthy presented a slide show to the board members regarding the college’s newest program, the remote welding program.
