In the wake of the West, Tx nitrogen plant disaster, we look in our own backyard to learn what Hutchinson County is doing to prepare for a disaster. Danny Richards of the Hutchinson County Emergency Operations Center says that there are many things you can do to prepare yourself for the few concerns that Agrium could face. "Our biggest concern is a release of anhydrous ammonia, not an explosion". Shelter In Place is the program Hutchinson County has prepared, which means simply close your doors and windows and shut off your air conditioning.

NEWS: Family disagreement takes violent turn

FRITCH - A family disagreement took a violent turn in Fritch on Sunday.
According to Chief Deputy James Qualls of the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred in the 200 block of Pawnee in Fritch.
During an argument, a fight took place in which Brent Dickinson, 39, was shot twice. When deputies arrived at the scene, with the assistance of the Fritch Police Department and officers from the National Park Service, Duane Wood, 57, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence).

TxDOT highlights Work Zone Safety Awareness Week

AMARILLO — As traffic increases along Texas roadways because of our booming population, fatal crashes are on the rise. In an effort to curb the trend, the Texas Department of Transportation’s Amarillo District was joined today by the city of Amarillo, The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Associated General Contractors of Texas (AGC) to ask the public to Be Safe. Drive Smart, in recognition of National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 15-19. TxDOT’s Be Safe. Drive Smart. campaign reminds drivers to slow down, stay alert and observe traffic signs when approaching work zones.

Fritch Area Chamber of Commerce to hold annual banquet April 20

Members of the Fritch Area Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual banquet on Saturday, April 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Sanford-Fritch Junior High School Cafeteria. Tickets for the event will be $20 per person. Children 8 years old and under will be admitted at no charge.

The deadline to purchase tickets for the $20 price is Monday, April 15. Tickets will be available at the door for $25 per person.

News: Freak accident

Two cars and a school bus were involved in a wreck late Wednesday afternoon that can only be described as a freak accident.
A 2004 red Chevrolet Avalanche pickup, driven by Mark Steven Lilley, 62, of Borger, was parked facing eastbound in the parking lot of Realife Church on Coronado Circle. A 2006 Silver Suzuki Forenza, driven by Ana Valencia Velazquez, 32, of Borger, was parking facing northbound behind Lilley’s vehicle, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of Borger PD.
