The events that happened at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., are not just ones that affect those in that general area. They are events that affect the lives and opinions of people across the United States.
20-year-old Adam Lanza made his way inside the school on Friday and ended up taking the lives of his mother, a teacher at the school, and 26 others, most of whom were children. He entered the elementary school armed with four weapons and wearing a bulletproof vest. He eventually took his own life.
Delivery of the Borger News-Herald will be delayed this weekend due to a power outage. The press has no electricity. An electrician has been called in. As soon as it's back up, the newspaper will be run. If it cannot be fixed within a reasonable amount of time, the newspaper will be run at the Liberal, Kansas, newspaper. Depending upon the amount of time it takes to run the paper and get it back here, the News-Herald will either be delivered late this evening or in the morning. We apologize for the inconvenience and will get your weekend paper to you as soon as possible.
Itâ€™s that time of the year again for busy schedules full of Christmas shopping and not enough time to wrap your gifts.

Frank Phillips College is proud to announce the Phillips High School Alumni Association â€“ Doug and Wanda Adkins Memorial â€“ Concurrent Scholarship.
Doug came to Phillips in 1947 and was a teacher and principal in the Phillips ISD school system for 37 years. Wanda was an active and fervent supporter of all Phillips ISDâ€™s activities.
The memorial scholarship will benefit dual credit high school students from Borger High School and Sanford-Fritch High School.
Doug and Wanda established the Joel Douglas Adkins Memorial Scholarship in memory of their grandson.
This past Saturday, Dec. 8, two members of the BISD Choral Arts Department traveled to Amarillo Caprock for the third in the annual series of auditions towards the Texas All-State Choir which is held in San Antonio in early February. Students from all choral departments in the Texas Panhandle from 1A schools to 5A traveled to compete at Caprock High School for a spot in the Pre-Area Choir.
Borger citizens are giving thanks to the community this holiday season.
Local citizens called the Borger News-Herald and posted on Facebook complimenting others in the community and how they have given back to them.
Improvements at Bulldog Stadium will be on the agenda of the Borger ISD board of trustees at its upcoming meeting.
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in the board conference room of the Borger ISD Administration Building, located at 200 East Ninth in Borger.
The board will be considering qualifications and selection of Parkhill, Smith, and Cooper, Inc. for professional architecture and engineering services at Bulldog Stadium.

Recent copper wire theft from area radio towers could have an adverse effect on peopleâ€™s lives.
According to Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards, a serious matter is at hand â€“ the theft of copper wire from radio towers.
â€śWhat the deal is, they go in and steal the lightning protection, which is thick copper surrounding the bust bars, but they also steal all the copper wire around and not only did they put us off by stealing the copper wire, they stole the electrical service,â€ť said Richards.
