The Hutchinson County Commissioners have found a new Director for the County Museum. On Aug. 13, commissioners unanimously approved to appoint Clay Renick as the new Hutchinson County Museum Director, replacing Wes Phillips, who retired June 13, 2012. Wes Phillips is also known for his insect program where he earned the title of the â€śBug Man.â€ť Phillips now teaches at Frank Phillips College.
The Borger City Council is taking action to amend an ordinance that would increase the response time allowed for employees of the Borger Fire Department.
The council introduced an ordinance that will amend the code of ordinances to allow Borger Fire Department employees to go from a 20-minute response time to a 60-minute response time.

Hutchinson County has rescinded its burn ban as of Tuesday. Thanks to the significant amount of rainfall Monday night, the county can burn as much as it pleases as long as it is outside city limits.
According to Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards, conditions have improved in Hutchinson County. Richards stated that just south of Borger, there was about two inches of rain reported and Highway 152 was shut down for about 45 minutes due to flooding.
The Hutchinson County United Way is preparing for its fourth annual golf scramble.
The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the Borger Country Club Golf Course, located at 301 Broadmoor.
The format of the event is a four-person scramble ($180 for the team and $45 per person). Mulligans are two for $5. The event is limited to the first 24 teams.
The 2012-13 budget for the City of Borger is progressing towards passage.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council acted to receive the FY 2012-13 operating budget.
A public hearing on the budget will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, to allow for comments from citizens.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said over the last three months, various directors and staff have been preparing the proposed FY 2012-13 operating budget.
The proposed budget includes revenue estimates of $21,006,714 and expenditures of $21,221,991.
It is budget time again for the City of Borger.
During its upcoming meeting, the Borger City Council will act to receive the proposed 2012-13 fiscal year operating budget and will schedule a public hearing to receive comment.
This action will take place at the councilâ€™s regular meeting, set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Preparations are beginning for the upcoming Hutchinson County Oil Patch Extravaganza (HOPE) at the Crutch Ranch. Those working on this yearâ€™s event gathered at the ranch Saturday morning for a cow patty pickup. Continue to watch the Borger News-Herald for more details on this exciting event!

Borger and Fritch will join with Coffee Memorial Blood Center and save many lives. These blood drives are less than a few days away and are a week apart from each other. So make sure you join in on saving lives.
First, Borgerâ€™s blood drive is on August 23 at the Union Hall, 111 E. Coolidge from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Then on August 27, at First Southern Baptist Fellowship Hall, 520 Overland Trail, Fritch will have its blood drive from 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
All eligible donors who present to donate will get a free t-shirt.
New Year Party will be Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 4-7 at each campus.
Postcards will be mailed to students for grades pk-4th grades indicating their teacher.
