Christa Newman is making plans to compete in the Miss Texas pageant.
She just needs donations to make that happen.
Newman, who currently holds the title of Miss Texas Panhandle 2012, has plans to compete in the Miss Texas Pageant in Allen, TX.
Check-in for the pageant is on June 30, and the finals night is on July 7. This portion of the pageant will be broadcast on Channel 7 at 7 p.m.
Thirty-nine young women are scheduled to compete in the Miss Texas Pageant.
Newman plans to leave early Friday morning to compete in the pageant.
The Borger Fire Department responded to a house fire on Monday morning.
The fire occurred at 1205 Baker, and officials were on scene for approximately three and a half hours.
Shawn Burleson of the BFD said the house was slated for demolition with the City of Borger.
He said he believes the owner is alive and in town, but resides in a nursing home in the area.
The structure, which was vacant at the time of the fire, was a total loss.
Burleson said the cause of the fire is suspicious is nature, but has been undetermined at this time.
Local officials from across the area responded to a trailer fire this weekend.
A double-wide and surrounding structures caught fire on Saturday afternoon starting around 2:30 p.m. and lasting until 4:35 p.m.
According to Fritch Fire Chief and Investigator Ed Adamson, the fire took down three outbuildings, two vehicles, three acres of grassland. The double-wide trailer home on the 400 block of Brooks was completely totaled.
The fire was caused by a electrical short in the unoccupied house. No injuries were reported.
Local and area residents are encouraged to come out and have fun for a great cause at Nutterville 2012.
The event is set for July 27-28 and will be held two and a half miles west of Stinnett on Highway 152.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Hutchinson County Cares, Inc., an organization dedicated to the memory of Casey Aylor. The mission of the organization is to assist and positively affect the lives of children and families in the local community.
Entrance to the event is $30 a person, and children 12 and under are free.

Today, we drive safer cars on safer roads. Decades of public information campaigns have made most of us safer drivers, but car accidents are still the leading cause of death for people between the ages of three and 34 in this country. Improvements in technology will continue to help bring those death numbers down, but most car accidents are caused by human error. The best way to end the risk of being involved in an accident is to practice safe driving behaviors.
The City of Borger has given its support to Texas Gas Service as it seeks to approve a cost of service adjustment filing.
The action was taken by the Borger City Council at its regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said that TGS last filed a full rate case with the City of Borger in 2008. During that case, one of its requests was a cost of service adjustment clause.
Local citizens have the opportunity to give blood this July and honor their favorite local hero at the same time.
The Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be hosting the Borger Wal-Mart Blood Drive from 2-6:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2012. A bloodmobile will be onsite at Wal-Mart, 1414 West Wilson.
All eligible donors who present to donate will receive a free Boots vs. Badges T-Shirt. While on site, donors can vote for their favorite local hero, either law enforcement or fire officials.
On 04/22/09 the Borger Police made an additional arrest in the Burglary of the BCAC at Frank Phillips College. Derrick Cody Sampel, W/M, 10/06/88, of Houston TX, was arrested on the felony charge of Burglary of a building. Sampel was released on a $7,500 bond.
