Friends of the Library to hold book sale

Are you ready to find some great books at a great price?
The Spring Book Sale, offered by the Hutchinson County Friends of the Library, is just around the corner. On April 19-21, books of all kinds and jigsaw puzzles will be available at the Borger library for low prices.
Hours for the sale are 2-7 p.m. Thursday, April 19; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 20; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21. Prices are 50 cents for adult hardbacks, 25 cents for children’s hardbacks, and all paperbacks will be two for 25 cents. In addition, puzzles are 50 cents and gift books are only 25 cents each.

Fritch driver involved in crash near county line

A Fritch driver was involved in a car crash near the Hutchinson County line Wednesday.
Around 2:16 a.m. on March 14, 2012, Deamber D. Neal, 33, of Fritch, was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup northbound on Highway 136.
The vehicle entered a curve in the roadway about three miles south of the Hutchinson County line in Potter County and veered off of the roadway to her right. She then overcorrected back to the left, causing the vehicle to overturn once and flip end over end twice before coming to rest.

HCUW seeking Day of Caring projects

The Hutchinson County United Way is seeking projects for its Day of Caring this April.
The event is scheduled for April 28, 2012. There will not be a day of caring scheduled this fall.
According to Teri Hogue, who is on the United Way Board of Directors, this particular event is a day when volunteers choose to give their time and services to work on a one-time service project in an effort to impact the community’s needs with tasks that they are unable to perform themselves.
“Projects are dependent upon the manpower available,” she said.

City of Borger not affiliated with Home Service company

It has come to the attention of the Utility Department of the City of Borger that a company calling itself “Home Service” out of Austin, Texas, has been mailing notices regarding water service lines to the citizens of Borger. This company offers what is in effect, an insurance policy covering the citizen’s water service line from the water meter to the foundation of the house. The City of Borger wishes to advise its citizens that the City is in no way affiliated with nor do we endorse their product. Citizens should investigate the situation thoroughly before responding to such offers.

Facts clarified regarding Huval incident on March 4

The Borger News Herald would like to correct details given in regards to the incident involving Gregory Louis Huval, II.
The original story states, “A high speed chase occurred on Highway 136 last Saturday involving a robbery suspect.”

Fernandez, others sentenced Tuesday

On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, four local residents associated with an October 2011 “round-up” in Borger were sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña.
Judge Robinson sentenced Francisco Villanueva “Frank” Fernandez, 43, to 100 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay a $10,000 fine and give up about $165,000 in cash, a Maserati, a Mercedes-Benz, a Bentley, a camper, a ski boat and trailer, and real estate at 328 and 330 N. Main in Borger.

St. John’s prepping for 57th annual spaghetti dinner

Come eat some spaghetti and meatballs at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 201 St. John’s Road.
This dinner is the 57th annual Italian meatballs and spaghetti meal Evangelist Catholic Church has offered to the public. The dinner will take place Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 11 to 5 p.m.
Adult tickets are $8 and $9 at the door and children are $3 and $4 at the door. Take outs will be available.

4-H beginning dog club project

The Hutchinson County 4-H is taking on a project centered around the animal we like to call “man’s best friend.”
The club has a new dog club project forming and would love to invite local youth to become part of the group. Youth between the ages of nine (or in the third grade) up through high school seniors are eligible to join 4-H.

Blood drive to be held March 19 at Borger High School

Want to save a life and get your education at the same time if you are a high school student?
Next week Coffee Memorial will be at Borger High School, 600 W. First Street, in the gym. The drive, set for March 19, 2012, will last from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
A photo ID or donor card is required to give, and donors must be at least 17 years of age to be eligible to give blood.
All eligible donors who present to donate will receive a free Coffee Memorial t-shirt.
