Frank Phillips students establishing Holocaust Remembrance Day

On Monday afternoon, Frank Phillips College Anthropology Students made a presentation to the FPC Board of Regents to establish a Holocaust Remembrance Day for April 19th, 2012, in conjunction with the Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust from Sunday, April 15th, 2012 through Sunday, April 22nd, 2012, and accept the organization’s Holocaust Remembrance Proclamation.

Borger Healthcare Center to hold Spring Fling Tuesday

The Borger Healthcare Center will hold its spring fling at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 20. The center is inviting its senior friends 55 and older for lunch, music, and door prizes. The center is located at 1316 South Florida. For more information on the spring fling, call the center at 273-3785.

Council to act on animal control ordinance

March 19, 2012

Action on an amended animal control ordinance for the City of Borger will move forward this Tuesday.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council will take action to introduce an ordinance amending the City of Borger Code of Ordinances, Chapter 2, Animal Control.
The Borger City Council was set to act on this ordinance last fall, but postponed action after a lengthy meeting and public hearing was held for the public.

Time to bash the trash!

It is time once again for local citizens to bash their trash!
The City of Borger will be holding its upcoming trash bash April 9-14, 2012. It is sponsoring this free week for county residents to bring their trash to the transfer station.
Kathie Harber, who is with the City of Borger, said tire disposal will also be an available service for locals during Trash Bash Week.
“Tire disposal, for residential customers, will not have a limit during this week,” she said.

FPC Board of Regents to cancel 2012 election

March 17, 2012

On Monday, March 19th, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents will take action on canceling the 2012 Board of Regents Election.
This year the Board of Regents had three full, six year at-large terms and one four-year, unexpired Spring Creek term scheduled to expire in 2012. As of the March 6th deadline for the candidates to file for the 2012 election, the applications received for the open positions were from Jay Campbell, Sandra Hilbert, and Dr. Shad Goldston for the three at-large terms, and Tonya Moore for the unexpired Spring Creek term.

For Hicks, work is all about making signs

(Editor’s Note: The Borger News-Herald will be featuring Borger’s City Departments throughout the next several weeks, highlighting the services that the city performs for citizens on a daily basis.)

There is one City of Borger employee whose career is all about making signs.
Rosa Hicks, Public Works, produces all city signs for citizen safety and awareness. She has been performing this service for 15 years and counting.

Balloon incident addressed before Borger ISD board

March 17, 2012

A water balloon fight at Borger High School the week prior to spring break took an ugly turn for one BHS student.
Roper Cox addressed the Borger ISD school board at its recent meeting on her son’s behalf. During the water balloon fight, her son was hit with a balloon filled with urine.
She said she wanted to know what the school district was going to do, and would rather see the district handle it than taking it to the police.

Fugitive arrested by BPD

March 16, 2012

An armed and dangerous fugitive was arrested by the Borger Police Department on Tuesday.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of BPD, the department received information on March 13 that Levi Whitecrow Ollis, 24, of Borger, was currently at a residence in the 1000 block of North Coble Street.
BPD had knowledge of the fact that Ollis had an outstanding parole violation warrant for his arrest. The warrant was for possession of a controlled substance. The department also had knowledge of the fact that Ollis was listed as an armed and dangerous fugitive, Lt. Griffin said.

Borger Creative Arts Club seeking donations for possible relocation

March 16, 2012

Borger Creative Arts Club is a non-profit club for citizens of Borger and the surrounding area to meet and share their love of art. Borger Creative Arts Club has been at the same location for 56 years. The club owns the building.
However, there is now a new owner of the land and the club needs to make new arrangements. The club operates on a limited budget and is attempting to purchase property for the club to meet.
