Amy Fernandez will be facing time in prison.
In U.S. Federal Court on Wednesday afternoon, she received a sentence of 12 months in prison with three years of supervised release to follow. The sentence was issued by Judge Mary Lou Robinson.
The Boomtown Theater presents its fifth début and duet starting this Thursday.
There are two different directors and two different one-act plays that will be presented. The theater will be serving a dinner before the two productions.
First in line is “He Said and She Said” by Alice Gerstenberg and directed by Tara Richelle Hopkins, five-year actor for the Boomtown Theater and first time director.
Local officials are seeking answers pertaining to an abandoned house fire that occurred last weekend in Borger.
At 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, a fire broke in an abandoned house in the 300 block of Birdie Avenue, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department.
He said the fire was fueled by strong winds pushing to the north. The fire threw embers into nearby yards, which started several other small fires, which threatened the majority of the houses in the subdivision.
Even though it is still close to two months away, planning is underway for this year’s Casey Aylor Memorial Motorcycle Ride.
The ride is set to be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Proceeds will benefit Hutchinson County Cares, Inc., which is a non-profit children’s charity organization.
The registration fee is $30 per rider, and the cost is $5 for a one-time extra draw. The fee will include the best and worst poker hand.

Due to ongoing redistricting litigation, the mailing of new voter registrations has been delayed.
In the absence of approved interim redistricting maps, county voter registration officials in many officials cannot finalize electoral precincts for the purpose of conducting elections.
All previously-issued voter registration certificates expired on Dec. 31, 2011, but only the cards have expired. Voter registrations do remain valid. Voters, who are currently registered, but:
Even though Christa Newman passed her Miss Tri-City crown to Holly Jones Saturday night, her pageant adventure has only begun!
At the Miss Tri-City pageant festivities, Newman was awarded the title of Miss Texas Panhandle 2012. She will be competing this July in the Miss Texas America Pageant.
Newman, who is 18 years old and a 2011 graduate of Sanford-Fritch High School, is the daughter of David and Mickey Newman and has one brother Jacob Aaron.
A sentencing date has been set for Amy Fernandez.
Ordered by Judge Mary Lou Robinson, on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, Fernandez’s sentencing date is set for Wednesday, Feb.29, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the U.S. Courthouse, 2nd Floor Courtroom, 205 E. 5th St., Amarillo, TX before Judge Robinson.

A grass fire broke out in the Electric City area on Friday afternoon.
On Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at 1:10 p.m., a grass fire occurred in the bed of the Canadian River at Electric City. The fire resulted in damage to 50 acres. According to Borger Fire Marshal Jerry Langwell, the fire occurred due to electrical power lines.
Borger, Hutchinson County, Fritch, Stinnett, and Crutch Ranch Fire Departments responded to the scene. No injuries were reported. All fire departments left the scene around 6:30 p.m.

Borger Lions Club makes 38 years of pageants possible
Several young ladies will be walking the stage this weekend as contestants at the 38th Annual Miss Tri-City Area Hutchinson County Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by the Borger Noon Lions Club.
