The Crime Stoppers is seeking the help of the public in the resolution of an unsolved burglary that occurred earlier this month.
On March 17, 2011, during the evening hours, a residence in the 1100 block of Carpenter Street was burglarized.
During the burglary, several firearms were stolen from the residence. Also taken from the residence were gun sights, scopes, and rifle cases.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department, the estimated loss value of the firearms and accessories totaled near $2,000.

A new business will be requesting a re-plat at the upcoming meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The meeting is set to be held at 7 p.m. this evening in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
The commission will receive and consider a request from CVS Pharmacy for a re-plat of Lots 4-11, Block 24, Unit 4, Thompson Addition, containing 1.303 acres, to be known as Lot 4, Block 24, Unit 4, Thompson Addition, 230 N. Cedar Street.

The Hutchinson County Friends of the Library Spring Book sale is set to begin this Thursday, March 31, and it will run through Saturday, April 2, set to be held at the Borger branch of the Hutchinson County Library.
The sale will be open to members only on Thursday, with hours of 4-7 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, the sale will be open to the general public, with hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 1, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 2.

A local parish is set to host its annual spaghetti dinner in less than two weeks.
St. Johnâs Catholic Church located at 201 St. Johnâs Road, will be holding its 56th annual Italian meatballs and spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2010. Tickets are currently available for adults and children and will also be available at the door the day of the dinner. Take-outs will be available as well.

Election time is officially here!
Of the cities of Borger, Fritch, and Stinnett, the City of Borger is the only one who is having contested elections this year.
Two spots are up for election on the Borger City Council. In Place Two, Jeff Brain, who currently serves as Mayor of the City of Borger, is running unopposed for another term. In Place Three, Robert Vinyard, who is currently serving as Mayor Pro-Tem, is seeking re-election for another term. He is being challenged by John Ray and Brandy Callahan for the council seat.

The West Texas High School Sports Department won $10,000 from Frito-Lay through the âScore for Your Schoolâ Promotion.
They accepted the check from Frito-Lay North America during a special assembly yesterday on March 25 at 9am at the WTHS cafeteria The students won the promotion this fall by having the most votes for a Division 1A school in the state of Texas.

The Hutchinson County Retired School Personnel Association will be meeting on April 21, 2011 at Frank Phillips. Lunch will be available in the cafeteria at 11:30am and following lunch in the Gallery Room at 12:30pm.
Chance Welch, Superintendent of Borger ISD, and Jim McClellan, Superintendent of Sanford-Fritch ISD, will be the speakers and will share information about our school systems and about the financial crisis facing those systems.
Everyone is invited to attend and hear the facts concerning the challenges that teachers in the Panhandle are encountering.

The City of Borger is planning to continue its street seal coating program into the upcoming year.
During a special session Wednesday, the council approved action on an interlocal agreement between Borger and other communities for the 2011 seal coat program.
Ted Dodd, director of public works, said it is the fourth year the City of Borger has participated in the seal coat program. The agreement allows the city to go in with Wheeler, Panhandle, and other southern communities, so bids will come in at a better price.

TLC and Lions Club have been coming together every year since 1949 to create the Texas Childrenâs Camp. This partnership will allow 75 individuals with special needs and medical conditions to go to summer camp at no cost.
âTexas Lions Camp is a residential camping facility for children with physical disabilities, type 1 diabetes and cancer. The Camp is located on over 500 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and is designed to introduce the âCan Doâ philosophy to children dealing with special medical conditions,â according to the Internet.

The Hutchinson County Commissioners Court will be holding a regular meeting on Monday March 28, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the Hutchinson County Courthouse in Stinnett. The meeting will start off with any corrections or additions to the minutes from the previous commissioners meeting. The commissioners will then accept any public comments.
